ioi predicted 10 million as well, and I think we'll agree that his statements are hardly "idiotic".

Besides, 5 million is what Prologue did, and it didn't start off like GT5. GT5 will easily clear 5mill, and 10 million isn't out of the question. Looking back @ GT4, GT5's numbers account for less days, and it only sold 500,000 less than it. That isn't really a strong sign of franchise decline. The only shooters this gen with large numbers are CoD, Gears, & Halo. One of those (Halo) was already big to begin with (previous gen).

I never understand why people think so many shooters sell so big. It's really not many.

GT5 Prologue did 5 million courtesy of heavy bundling. Both physical and digital copies.

OT: I think GT5 just didn't hit a lot expectations. The most noteworthy is It failed to pass GT4's opening and the PS3 didn't outsell the 360.

We can make excuses all day. You don't think GT5 will have bundles?

Yeah, I'm sure it will. So Sony can boast about it hitting 10 million.

I guess you should include every Wii & 360 game in that frame of mind that were bundled.

Yep.

I don't look at Forza 2 and 3 as massive sellers because I know bundling was pretty massive for them as well.

really did average, everyone was off with their numbers especially vgc. if gt5 sold 1.8 in two days then in sold 200k in the other to? including black friday. or its very undertracked or vgc was very wrong in their two articles.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

I find strange the 1,8 million in two days and only 2,1 in four-five days...

Well, then just about every bundled major franchise isn't massive in your view? You think Wii Sports, Halo, Mario, GT aren't really big sellers?

I think the point is getting lost.

I'm just pointing out a good chunk of GT5P sales came from a lot bundling.

If someone boasted about Forza 3 selling big, I would point to heavy bundling as well.

Maybe it would make more sense if we had a breakdown of each day.

My guess is day 1 was a vast majority of sales.

If you notice, the numbers are from Nov 27th, the game released on the 24th, that's only 3 days of sales, not a full week

How could anyone pick disappointing? How in the hell is 2 million disappointing? It'll probably be 4-5 million by the end of the year.

ok, people keep throwing around the "not a full week" argument, but pretty much every game gets the same length week. Nintendo is one of the few companies that launches some games on Sunday. If you compare NA sales to NA sales, and JP sales to JP sales, and EMEAA sales to EMEAA sales you should be able to determine if the week was "good" or not. It shouldn't take a magical 2-3 extra days that no other game gets either. Also, the way sales are defined GT5 has had its first week sales in. You can't justify missing 2 less important days as a reason for poor sales week 1, as most of week 1's sales happen in the first 2 days.

Anyways, I ranked GT5 week 1 sales as good. Just looking at GT4 with a direct scalling based on GT5 numbers (yes, I know, extremely crude and innacurate), it is on track for 9.5m sales, which is around 1m more than my original prediction (I know it was somewhere in the 8.x range). This launch means it has a shot at 10m which would be extremely good for a PS3 game this generation.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Well, GT is known to do big numbers, with/without bundles.

Indeed. However, I do believe the series has had massive bundling. Can anyone explain why GT3 was such a massive seller in the US?

I remember people were saying GT5P sold a shit ton so GT5 is gonna be massive.

But I don't think people were considering how heavily bundled GT5P was.

I dunno.

Aren't you the same guy that "lol" at Halo Reach sales because Black Ops did better?

If you can "lol" at Reach, than you must ROFL at GT5.
