black ops on xbox360 alone looks like it's gonna substantially outsell halo reach

Microsoft honestly believes that Halo: Reach will outsell Call of Duty: Black Ops this autumn.

"It's going to be a really good fight and yes I do [believe it]," Stephen McGill, Xbox UK boss, told Eurogamer at a Halo: Reach celebrity launch event last night. "We have huge expectations."

What makes it funnier is that both Black Ops and Halo Reach first week sales are higher than what Killzone 3 will sell lifetime.

the halo series doesn't seem able to match the tone set by Halo 3 in terms of sales.I may not like Halo that much,I find it quite saddening this generation (and probably forever more after this generation) the seeming lack of exclusivity and every other game being multi platform.

It seems to hit big,you have to put it on both the 360 and PS3,leads to a load of third parties simply doing the multi treatment to every game =/

yes call of duty for 360 crushed it which was pretty suprising to me, but if you noticed the second week for ps3 was adjusted down, and reach's second week was 100k higher then that while released in September. PS3 version can still pass it, but we will need to wait till next year to find out because black ops(ps3) next few weeks will be higher then reach's week 3 ,4, 5 etc. due to black friday and the holiday rush. Its what it can sell after that that will determine if the ps3 version can outsell reach. Still ridiculous call of duty on the ps3 can potentially outsell halo on the 360. Would much rather see uncharted or god of war competing in sales with it though =/.

I agree with libellule. I mentioned this in another thread even, COD simply is the bigger franchise now. Back when it was first announced most people seemed to think that Black Ops' sales would suffer because it was made by Treyarch, but that obviously isn't the case. I mean the series has even found a pretty respectable niche for itself in Japan even. At this point I don't think it matters who the developer is, it would still sell gangbusters. And although the reasoning was understandable most people also thought Reach's sales would grow compared to H3 because of the dramatically larger install base.

I already made a thread about this but Im still somewhat shocked that it happened.

@Jedidiah-Rose which is even more reason for MS to cut the crap stop being lazy and actually devote time and money to make their own in house games just like Sony & Ninty do. Just not throw money at all the 3rd parties, that strategy isnt working anymore. YOu cant blame 3rd parties for wanting to make more money and have their games reach a larger audience
