Forums - General Discussion - Is British English or American English Used More Frequently?

I have been pondering this subject for a few days and unfortunately I believe British English is used less even though it is the native version. Of course the Commonwealth nations do but do others use it over American English? Do non-English nations learn American English or British English?

I'm pretty sure most learn British English from looking at India and similar countries. It depends who has the influence on the country.

British English is used in all of the Commonwealth.

Indeed, British English is used pretty much everywhere except America. I don't think I've ever seen a non-American misspell "colour" (though I have seen a few "program"s and "center"s). Where American is used, it's more due to lack of knowledge of British English than actual intent to use the American dialect.

I think it's British English. After all, it is correct, not some bastardised version circulated by lazy yanks.

Kidding (mostly).

I genuinely think British English is used more, though. As in, everywhere outside America uses it, whereas America is very large and tends to think its the centre (notice the spelling!) of the universe, but only Americans actually use it...

American english is very sloppy and full of slang and coloqualisms, though I can't complain, i'm Canadian and say EH. British english isn't used as much as as the North American English
