I'm glad ou enjoyed my homecountry

It's definetely a nice place. Did you have some glühwein too?

thats not typical for austria... you should ask him for jagertee

Actually Beer, Gurktaler, Glühmost and Schnaps... and wine... these are the beverages Austria is known for^^

you are known for beer? i know beer from netherlands, czech republic, belgium, germany...but from austria? i know you have a lot of brewery there for just ~9 million people like in bavaria, germany  but i don't know just one beer from austria. i bet itt tastes as good as bavarian beer but i really don't know it

wine, sacher torte, jagertee, wiener schnitzel, spätzle, mozartkugeln, strudel, nockerln, most nad everything with the word *leber* baaahh ... thats what comes in my mind if i think about austria

Austria is the country with the second highest beer consume per person worldwide... just germans drink more beer... Our beer is a lot better then german beer but most of Austrian Breweries are too small to really have a broad market in other countries... but maybe if you go into a speciallity shop for beer you may find Hirter (well as far as I know Hirter is sold in 27 countries (I used to live really near that brewery) and if you live in Germany, USA, Japan or the UK you might be able to get some... other countries that I know they export to are Italy, Switzerland and Slovenia... but like I said its probably very rare in every of the named countries except maybe Italy and Slovenia... It is even hard to get here in Vienna... other Austrian Beers are: Ottakringer (thats the brewery I live next to now), Zipfer, Murauer, Gösser, Villacher, Egger and a lot more^^

I should make a thread about everyones favourite beverage... BEER! just kidding...

An average person confusing it with Australia is one thing... but someone who went there on a trip? Aren't people interested in roughly where they are travelling to (by bus no less!)

That's why I was like WTF. I mean, a joke okay, but I thought it was some sort of thread about how great this guy's trip to Austria was. Not a good joke.

i dont think its better than german beer (btw im from germany) i bet most bavarian and austrian beer sorts are like they would come from the same country. ok, the rest of germany has other beer sorts very different to most sorts from bavaria but you cant say one is better than the other. for example most germans say the bavarian beer is the best (ok there are more breweries than in the rest of germany together) but there are so many different sorts like the altbier in düsseldorf that i would never say that the best german beer comes from this or this place in germany. its just vey different from nort to south...

ahh and the best beer comes most time from small unknown breweries so yeah the beer from the big german breweries isn't as good as the beer from the small ones like in austria

and i dont believe germany and austria are place 1 and 2 in beer consume. the guys from czech republik drink beer the whole day without a break lol...

Island? Austria? I don't follow. Austria's an island now?

No but there are a lot of Island and Pennisulas in Austria though its not near the sea^^ for example at the wörthersee there are two islands and one penninsula, in Vienna are several Islands, for example the Donauinsel, or the UNCity in Vienna is also on an island between Neue Donau and the Alte Donau...

Good information for those who didn't already know, but it's missing the point. The island paragraph in the orginal post is purposefully mixing up Austria and Australia, a common thing to do on VGC since... like forever. Hence why you also see people asking for kangaroos in this thread.

I'm sorry, did my back hurt your knife?

you forgot Red Bull

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’
