No but there are a lot of Island and Pennisulas in Austria though its not near the sea^^ for example at the wörthersee there are two islands and one penninsula, in Vienna are several Islands, for example the Donauinsel, or the UNCity in Vienna is also on an island between Neue Donau and the Alte Donau...

Good information for those who didn't already know, but it's missing the point. The island paragraph in the orginal post is purposefully mixing up Austria and Australia, a common thing to do on VGC since... like forever. Hence why you also see people asking for kangaroos in this thread.

Well... there was an Austrian Research Institute that already covered that... about 70% of all non Europeans mistake Austria with Australia according to that study...

Also... there are also Kangaroos in Austria... but only in zoos...

Why don't we all just call it Österreich... that would prevent a lot of mistakes^^

Austria is a land of evil! When I was there two years ago the weather was nice and sunny so me and my family decided to get a better look at the alps. When we were at the top a freaking thunderstorm attacked us! I got wet!

We also visited the Kehlsteinhaus, or Eagle's Nest, and I could feel the shadows of evil lurking there, I swear! Also, it was built dangerously high up on a mountain! Someone could fall and break a leg.

An average person confusing it with Australia is one thing... but someone who went there on a trip? Aren't people interested in roughly where they are travelling to (by bus no less!)

No, it would only lead to more, because most people wouldn't bother to spell Österreich correctly and just type Osterreich instead!

Then how about Oesterreich^^

You'll probably end up hating how people are pronoucing it then. Those whose first language isn't German, that is. We used to practise by saying Österreich in German class, it's a difficult one >_>

Oesterreich would be weird in English since the "oe" combination is usually a long i.

As far as I know, Austria is called Austria after the french Autriche...

We could also use the original name from medieval ages: Ostarrichi;P

Actually Beer, Gurktaler, Glühmost and Schnaps... and wine... these are the beverages Austria is known for^^


 i know beer from netherlands, czech republic, belgium, germany...but from austria? i know you have a lot of brewery there for just ~9 million people like in bavaria, germany  but i don't know just one beer from austria. i bet itt tastes as good as bavarian beer but i really don't know it

wine, sacher torte, jagertee, wiener schnitzel, spätzle, mozartkugeln, strudel, nockerln, most nad everything with the word *leber* baaahh ... thats what comes in my mind if i think about austria
