Forums - Website Topics - Vgchartz does a shitty job at PR

Microsoft announced that Mass Effect sold 1 million, how does vgchart respond??  .... *silence*

Why have a news/editorial section if when these things happend you guys ignore it?

The Staff ignoring Microsofts press release just shows a lack of backbone and trust in vgchart numbers.... which btw makes me start to question my trust in the numbers. Yeah, we've seen a couple replies here and there on various threads saying that it could be just shipment numbers, but their hidden deep in some random forum. Make an official statement! Post it on the front page and tell them your reasoning why you stand by your numbers!

NA software data as always been pretty accurate and Japan data is given out every week. Europe is the only region where data is sparse, but judging by Gfk UK charts, where Mass Effect hit #8 in the first week and then dropped out of the top 20 in the second week, you can guarentee its sales havn't skyrocketed.

Same crap happened when Microsoft announced 10.4 million consoles sold... To this day I still see people posting on other websites bashing vgchartz saying they got that wrong... well I guess this will just be another thing people will use to discredit the site.

^leo--agreed that is what that mil mark is

vgchartz has the number at 700,000 copies sold. the actual sales figure is probably between the two.

Why does anyone need to respond? We all know that MS are reporting the number of units they have shipped to retailers and we report en estimate of the number of units sold to consumers.

We have to suddenly "defend" ourself "against" every press release or comment that someone else makes now? Never have in the past so why do so now?

Having said this, I agree (for other reasons) that I need to (an have) get people on board to deal with the "press" side of the site and put us about more.

You can't say everyone knows the numbers are shipped when some vcghartz members that post on these forums keep saying Mass Effect is undertracked.

You don't have to defend against every comment, that's what we/your members do! I don't know how many times I've seen comments posted from members on other sites defending your numbers.

But you guys need to do something when Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo releases official numbers that are misleading.

Maybe it wasn't necessary in the past because the site was new, because it wasn't quoted on various blogs, gaming news websites, digg, Kotuko, reddit, etc. But this site still growing, its becoming a force and at some point it will be necessary.

Yes, I was contacted some time ago by Louie, and I agreed to join the press team, but I haven't heard anything since. A lot of people on various forums have very different opinions about Vgchartz' accuracy, but the more proffessional side of the web (major sites, newspapers etc.) have an overall decent opinion of it.

Here in Norway, many people accuse Vgchartz of heavy "guesstimation", which I've called them on, asking them to dig up another unofficial site with the same knack for hitting the numbers correctly and sticking lividly close to the NPD! The site is growing, both internaly with new users every day so to speak, and in reknown across the web. A larger and synchronized press team could easily avert these things, even set a few things straight in the constant confusion concerning shipped or sold to end user.

I worked in newspapers for 15 years. What can do to help?

Vgchartz proves its data is independent and well-researched precisely because it doesn't update numbers to blindly follow press releases or sales tracking agency figures.

This is yet another example where ioi is confident enough in his data to let it stand. Indeed, the margin is within the margin of error even NPD assumes.

I don't see how the mass effect number is shipped when their halo 3 number is SOLD, seems a bit odd.
