Forums - Sony - Is Gran Turismo 5 in trouble?

Knowing GT's impressive sales history, I'm confused by the really low Americas sales less than 2 weeks before release. I've never tracked a GT game prior to release, and I do understand they have incredible legs, but nonetheless the current pre-order sales seem a little worrisome. Anyone have any thoughts? Has the GT series lost a lot of its fanbase in the Americas?

Unset release date until this month, plus it not being an FPS, are reasons for it not seeming to be as huge of a release salewise, as you might be hoping for.

1. Awesome legs

2. Its huge in Europe/Japan (not as big in America)

3. All the confusion/delays probably hurt preorders

Driving games do seem to be in a period of decline however since you're talking about pre-orders in the weakest market I wouldn't worry about it.

I think it'll be fine. They mucked up the release schedule, so they weren't able to coordinate properly with advertising. So week 1 might be lower than if launch conditions were normal. End of the day (or rather year), I don't think sales will suffer any and total 2010 sales will meet expectations in all markets.

It GT5 has suffered from anything it'll be some of the interested but not seriously committed past GT players have pretty much lost interest and moved on to other things, and that's more the 5-yesr thing than the 3 week thing.

There isn't even any advertising in the US for it. I have yet to see a single commercial for it. I've seen billions of them for Black Ops, Kinect and other garbage. Just no GT5 stuff, at all. Only GT5 stuff I've seen is commercials that I've hunted down (online). So yea, Sony is doing a terrible job of making buzz. No one knows. I went to pay off my CE for GT5, they didn't even know GT5 comes out this month. They were saying it comes out next year, LOL! It's not even on their coming soon list on their boards.

So yea, like I said, Sony has done a AWFUL job on advertising and letting their retailers know of the release date.

Grade = F

GT5P has to have over 6 million copies sold by now. I definitely predict that preorders in the US will not reflect sales at all.

Well if it were on the xbox it would get a huge marketing push from Microsoft. I wonder if Sony will push it in the Americas.

it will do find

it would sell 20-50k a week all 2011 and well into 2012 and even then it would still sell good numbers right up to PS4

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong
