Wii Sells 232,000 in October, Places Third Again

Following the release of the NPD October sales report, IndustryGamers has learned that Nintendo sold just 232,000 units of the Wii console, putting it firmly in third place yet again. The Xbox 360 sold 325,000 units, while Sony's PS3 sold 250,000 units. The Wii sales figure represents a year-over-year decline of 54% while PS3 was down 22% and 360 was up 30%.

Software sales for Nintendo didn't fare much better, either, as the Wii software sales were down 26% to $32 million and DS software sales were down 32% to $23 million. Xbox 360 software sales, on the other hand, were up 44% to $81 million, and PS3 software sales were up $27 million (17%).

Wii has been facing increasing competition from PlayStation Move and Microsoft's Kinect. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter noted that Wii is also "continuing to struggle due to gamer fatigue and a lack of high-profile releases."

In before all the d0med comments.

Wow I did't know that the PS3 outsold the Wii in the US.

And wowza at the X360 Software sales. Impressive.

Wii is domed!

PS3 didn't decrease in average weekly sales, it was just flat. Although average revenue would appear to be up since the Move 320 GB bundle increased its sales. So it would appear that we overtracked both HD consoles by about 30k and Wii by about 50k. DS was almost dead on though.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

well lets see how november fares for ninty.

I'm more curious to see how the Wii holds up in December.

Three things:

It's hard to continue selling as well as you once did when you've already sold 75mil to date, which is almost as much as the PS3 and 360 combined.

I'm curious how many of those 360 sales were due to faulty hardware (Red ring of death etc..)

It's hardly surprising Sony would take the Nintendo Wii remote, stick a ball of light on top of it and call it "Life changing, NEW technology!" considering the Playstation was originally just going to be the Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems CD drive.

Oh and one more.. Nintendo had the least expensive system to manufacture, wasn't flashy, and it's a miracle it whooped on the other systems for so many years, being so far behind the curve with hardware.

Nintendo is going have to do something. Releasing of some of the quality Wii titles that haven't left Japan would be a start. In Japan, I really don't know what they could do at this point. A real console Pokemon game maybe?

Welcome to the forums i guess.

But you know what both the Playstation and  PS Move have in common? They are both improvements over the products they were ''copied'' from.

I don't really get how this is news. Both HD systems have BRAND NEW technology that just released, where the Wii hasn't had a really substantial release anytime soon. I'm more impressed that the Wii isn't FURTHER behind.

At this rate, the Wii will be surpassed in 2020. =P
