Forums - Sony - So The Fight: Lights Out has 47 Metascore. IGN is still wrong?

thw iWaggle review is pure fanboy reviewing bullshit.

You dont have to adapt yourself to fit the game. The characters are suposed to punch just like you're doing. And they don't do that. That's unquestionable.

I hope Fight Night Champion can bring a true boxing 1:1 experience IF it gets move support.

Have you played the game yet?  The Iwaggle review is very accurate and fair.   The characters do punch and have different styles (Passive, Aggressive, etc) .   I have and own the game.  It's not a stellar 10/10 Game of the Year choice but it's certainly not even close to the terrible ratings that IGN gave it.

It's not easy, it's not a game that you are going to sit on your couch and flail your fists to win.  You will sweat, you will have to earn it but it's got very good tracking as close as I can honestly say I care to see 1:1 tracking.   It's certainly far from perfect the graphics are that bland greyish, Def Jam type of tone.

It is not a terrible game though.  If you enjoyed Gladiator Duel in Sports Champions?  This game will feel very comparable in terms of effort required to play and in terms of hitting.  It's more comparable to a Mid Silver match in Gladiators Duel right from the start of the game however.

If you haven't played it, why say that the iwaggle review is total fanboy BS?   Because you watched a deceptive video?  (Just watched the Game Trailer review the guy isn't even remotely trying to punch properly or is versus a training dummy).

Well I have watched more videos and even the iwaggle review and even if I haven't play this things there're some aspects that I didn't like much.

* Graphics: The general aesthetics of the game are quite ugly. Sure I suppose they tried to emulate the underground world of ..... some guys fighting ..... Fight Club, yes anyway the color palette is poor, the lighting is terrible, some of the textures are just a mess,  the backgrounds are plain and boring and the characters (and I'm sorry for what I'm going to say) look like some generic homeless men, even the tattooed dudes look bad.

* Fighting: Maybe is just me but I like fighting games when they're fun and fast, with flashy screen, huge combos, powers and all the good stuff. Now I think this games tried to emulate real fights and that the problem, real fights are not only slow and boring but also they're the most disgusting thing created by mankind (yes I saw The Fight Club) It give me the impression that they're trying to reach the same audience that enjoy cr*p like "Bum Fights" or the trauma series with this game.

* Dany Trejo: Dear God What have you done to poor Dany!!!! He's awesome in Machete now he looks like a poor imitation of Rocky's trainer Mickey.

* Price: So  need 2 wands and the game, that's almost $200 bucks!!!!. It's a quite expensive deal honestly I'd prefer to get games like Vanquish, Ghost of Sparta, Enslaved and others instead.

That's the problem, though.  You're basing your views of the game on videos.  I actually own the game.

Graphics:  I will admit that liking the visuals of the game is completely opinion based, so no one is really wrong here.  I personally don't mind it.  It just seems different from all the other games I have.  I will also admit that I wish some of the characters were a little more varied.  After a few fights, it will seem like your fighting someone from before, only slightly altered.

Fighting:  Here's where watching vids will seriously get you into trouble.  The problem is that most vids that are out now only show of some of the early fights.  Which have slower enemies, so the fights seem slower.  But turst me, after going through a few of the enemies you will get to faster ones, and you will get your ass beat.  This is where the "RPG" element of the game kicks in (which I really love).  You have to train your character to increase his stats, just like in real life.  This allows you to be more accurate, as well as have more speed and power behind your punches.

In terms of your character's actions, they are truly 1:1, or as close as you're going to get to it.  This isn't some busted game like Fighters Uncaged, where if you do a move you have a 50/50 shot it actually registering.  Whatever you do with your arms, your character does.  The only problem you may have is the correct lighting for head tracking.  I only got it working once, but damn was it fun for the few hours it worked.  My character ducked and swayed just like I was doing.  Having said that, you have to remember you're controlling a digital character in his own world.  In other words, you may be able to swing your arm all the way through a punch, but would it be realistic for the fighter to be able to pass through your oponent's body, just so he could follow your arm perfectly?  Of course not.  Not only would that look glitchy, but your punches wouldn't seem very effective at all.  Which is why I wonder what IGN, and other reviewers who complained about poor tracking, would prefer.  The game to have hit detection, or look glitchy as hell.  And really, it's like expecting a character to walk through a locked steel door, just because your holding the analog stick towards it.

Dany Trejo:  Man, there's nothing wrong with him in the tutorials.  I actually enjoyed him being there.  Kinda fit the whole feel of the game.

Price:  Actually, it's closer to $150, not $200, since $50 plus $50 plus $40 = $140.  Of course, that's kinda ridiculous to even include the controllers.  I mean it's not like I can only use them with The Fight.  I already had two way before I bought The Fight, anyway.  Besides, are you going to say every kinect game actually costs $200?  Or every normal game costs $110?  Didn't think so.

Real Flaws:  The only ones I really see for this game are not having a locked position from your opponent (though I've gotten used to moving the character), not having your fighter slightly transparent, and the repetitive look of your opponents.  I have read that they are releasing a patch for The Fight, soon.  I would imagine they will at least make the locked position and transparency an option, though I doubt they will do anything to fix the characters looks.

In conclusion, I'd give this game a 70-75.  It gives you a good work out, and is fun to play and watch others play.  When and if they release a patch to fix some of the issues I stated above, I would say it would be an easy 80-85.

For me it's close to 200 because I don't have the camera. Still I pass on this MOVE thing, but Children of Eden looks quite good.

"So The Fight: Lights Out has 47 Metascore. IGN is still wrong?"

I don't know if the games is THAT bad, but let me tell you something about "metascores". They mean shit. First of all, they are "weighted" by whatever "Metacritic" think each singular reviewer's word is worth. Just WTF? Why would anyone trust that crap? Do it like GameRankings, a simple average and that's it.

Anyway, it's people who decide what they like or what they don't. You read some of the bad, you read some of the good and use it as a guide, not something to decide for you. See, GTAIV is the highest ranked game in Metacritc and I wouldn't give that game more than an average 6. That's me, that's what counts to ME, so I couldn't care less about people getting all jizzed-up because of Rockstar games. Same goes for Red Dead. That's a barely a 7 in my book. And I'm not talking about "gaming taste" here, I could make a very reasonable review to justify my scores and taste wouldn't have a 1% to do with it.

You also have to remember that, like Sports Champions Resort, you don't need 2 Move controllers. You can use 1 Move controller and a Nav/DS3 controller in your other hand. Something that a fair few of these reviews fails to mention. I should be getting my game delivered sometime next week hopefully, but even without playing the game I get the impression that some reviewers have scored this badly because they haven't got their Move setup set up or calibrated properly, they're not willing to work to get over the learning curve, are severely unfit or just can't punch their way out of a paper bag.

The iWaggle video review is the best I've seen so far, and is the main reason why I'm getting the game.

I'm quite happy that the game doesn't have a constant fixed distance between the fighters, if it was fixed the game would be too easy and connecting with punches wouldn't feel as satisfying. I'm really happy to see a game these days that doesn't have the constant hand holding that every single game released these days subjects us to. If someone had told me 10-15 years ago that the likes of auto-regenerating health, aim-assisy and auto-aim would be a standard today I would have laughed at them. :Oo

The only problem I had with the game is the lack of a transparancy option but that's now confirmed to be implemented in a forthcoming patch.

Edit: And I also love the art style which seems to be so unpopular, it gives it a Sin City feel to it which I think looks great!

Just watched the Gametrailers review (they gave it a 3.6) and hell it really looks bad.

The punches look more like bitch slaps and the face tracking doesn't seem to work at all.

See this is where the bias and horrible reviewing comes in.  And I'm not lying or exaggerating.  I'm not trying to convince you that this game will appeal or be perfect for everyone.  Make no mistake, if you enjoyed Gladiators Duel as much as I did (I beat all the matches) this game will be right up your alley, definitely fun and completely exhausting.  This is a game that is a solid 7/10 (Motion controlled game).  The story is non-existent, the characters are bland and forgettable, the rewards are somewhat meh  but the actual fighting in the game?  It's spot on.  (If you have Two Moves, and enjoyed Gladiators Duel in Sports Champions?  Do not miss out on this game, it's solid.  I can't vouch for one Move because there is no reason for me to only use one.

The punching in that review is reflective to how the person playing the game is punching.  If it looks like slapping, the reviewer is punching in more of an open-fisted, slapping manner.  This is not indicative of how the game responds to your hits if you are punching properly.    You can straight jab right to someone's face.    This is yet another disgraceful review laced with inaccuracies, half-truths, and just half-assed the whole way through.

If the game is anything actually good, why all this bad reviews then?

Can you give me an example of a game with mediocre meta that is actually a good enjoyable game?

I LOL'd hard at the ''the product is tiring to play'', guess the review was pretty out of shape. So we can pobably at about 2 points to the score if you're in descent shape?
