DS piracy is as common or possible even more common here in Europe. It's probably more because it was advertised like hell over here. And the fact that Nintendo sometimes kind of falsely marketed it as a 'dressing up simulator' possibly helped broaden it's appeal

American figures will definitely go over 300k, Iwata specified DQIX as a title they see "evergreen" potential in and they're planning additional western advertising campaigns (targeting new consumer groups, specifically tween girls) for the holidays. As is, DQIX is outperforming DQVIII in America, despite the latter (1) launching during Q4 and (2) coming with the FFXII demo disc.
I think it'll pass 500k US in time, maybe even higher. The last time Nintendo put this sort of post-launch effort into a 3rd party title in the west was Professor Layton and the Curious Village, and look how that turned out...
They were targeting the game at younger boys/girls in the UK adverts - good to see them expanding the target audience, I guess.

Haha yea right.
Good for DQIX. Let's see how DQX does once it releases. Nintendo did a great job marketing this game for Squeenix.

I think this is an accomplishment more so, since in the west DQ8 had a very important demo....hell that is really the only reason some people bought the game (like my friend, who let me borrow DQ8 and he didn't even play it himself).

FFXII demo was only in the US Version of DQVIII not the EU Version of DQVIII though.
