Do we really want Apple in the game console industry?

Absolutely not! People have covered the reasons for me- insanely overpriced (While Nintendo has a nice profit margin, they're not overpriced.), a poor build quality (Hey, a new iPod has to come out every year, to encourage you to upgrade when yours dies...), etc. Frankly, none of Apple's products are worth what they ask for them. But they've got enough loyal followers that would mess things up in a way that I'd not be willing to see or support.

Wow! I was the first one to welcome them.

They would bring innovation, as they always do. That would be great for me.

What innovation are you talking about?

The iPhone? No, smphones were there before the iPhone.

The iPad? No, Tablet PCs (it's not even a full Tablet PC) were there before the iPad.

The iPod or iTunes? don't make me laugh. MP3 players and MP3 shops came LONG before Apple did this.

Really, Apple doesn't innovate anything.  All they do is bring it under one hut and stamp their expensive name on it. The major selling point of Apple products is design and blind worship. They make it casual friendly and add widespread appeal, though, so much I give to them.

Pretty much this. An Apple console would be full of shitty games, have completely closed application markets and would be overpriced as hell as well as costing developers an arm and a leg with the insane rates Apple charge from their stores and royalties.

All in all; no thanks for me allthough I do think it would sell like hell simply based on the fact that it would have a partially consumed fruit on the back and a shiny cover.

PS: Bring on the Apple-corps...

Exactly why I don't want to see Apple join. They would tear the industry to pieces.

Worst case scenario Apple buys Sony. Enters the industry with the I-Station. Throws a billion into ads and another billion into aquiring exclusives. They launch the product with the I-branding and PlayStation branding, bring in I-Tunes and all of Apple's other features. Apple then makes Sony music and movies exclusive to I-Tunes and other I devices like I-Station , Apple TV and I-Pads.They launch I-Station and a buying spree purchasing many more small publishers and developers. They then make game companies produce a certain amount of exclusives for their console and black list any company that disagrees. It'll be the I-Phone all over again this time with the games industry.

Best case scenario. Apple Buys EA, enters the industry as a fourth competitor. takes a big enough market share to force one of the other three out of the industry (Probubly Sony as you said) With Sony gone Nintendo goes head to head with Apple possibly holding its own. Microsoft likely pores the remainder of its wealth into X-Box and puts up a hell of a fight. In the end we loose Sony and see Nintendo and Microsoft badly damaged if both are still in the console industry.

Either way Apple will destroy the industry. They are the second largest corporation in the world with over 51-billion dollars in reserve (Spending money) None of the big three can compete with that much financial power.

Then Valve and Blizzard form a super console...called the PC...oh wait.

After the decimating defeat of Microsoft and Nintendo, the PC fanboys continue to fight the good fight (children) against their evil Mac bretheren. It's a long battle with the PC side barely holding on with services like Steam. Blizzard goes PC exclusive in hopes of weakening Macs power, but in the end (it doesn't even matter!) all is lost and Steve Jobs has taken over the world with humanity as his slaves.

people are saying apple is the second largest company in the world. What is the first?? Microsoft?

I'd like to see them try. Then I'd like to see them crash and burn. >:)

3 is already enough. 4 competing consols would just be over the top. I think if they got E.A. just to make game for the 3 current consols that wpuld be fine. But if they got sony i think they would turn sony into the same generic company as apple. I love apple but i hate the way they keep trying to get people to buy stuff which is the same as they already have just in a dif box :/

Yeah i know my spelling sucks but im dysgraphic so live with it :3

Exxon-Mobil, Microsoft is third, if I'm not wrong.

OT: I really wouldn't care, I highly doubt they will destroy the industry. If they release a super expensive console, with crappy games, well guess what, i wont buy it. Whats with the hate anyway?

i am afraid of what they can do but yes i want to see  them get f***ed

I dont like apple

In the words of Inon Beracha, CEO of the company which provided the technology for Kinect, "Apple is a pain in the ass".

They waltz into an industry with their billions of advertising dollars, get their users to make all of their content, slap on an exorbitant price tag, spray on the Apple symbol and sell 100 million copies. It's really not fair.

And, because it's made by Apple, everyone says "Hey, I bought my phone, MP3 player, tablet PC and computer from them! I'll buy this!"

To get an indication of the degree to which an Apple purchase is an informed purchase, 1/3 of iPad users have neglected to download a single app. No paid apps. No free apps. It's widely agreed that what sets iOS apart from all other smartphone operating systems is the app store (incidentally, the one part of the OS which the designer has no part in creating), and thus any purchase of an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad should be based on the apps, right? I mean, you could pay half the price, and get a tablet PC capable of browsing the web, watching videos, listening to music and much more besides.

Sane and sensible people become insane and act on the spur of the moment when Apple is involved. I have seen it first hand. Something about their bright silver logo just drives people completely insane, and that's the last thing the gaming industry needs. In the PS1, PS2 and Wii, we had consoles which catered to casual gamers, but also had enormous numbers of quality games in a variety of genres. Apple wouldn't have that. Hell, there probably wouldn't be a single first party game, and everything available would be of the sort of quality of iPhone and iPad games. And it would sell.
