So next gen begins in 2016? I'd be willing to take my first ever bet on VGChartz that either Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo will release a new system before that.

yea 2014 in my opinion. current gen console will continue to be on the market ur just trying to be funny. anyway checkout my new thread with Ted Price on that California law that may cost us this very topic?

Link? Because I highly doubt that.

me either. they have no idea wht there doing. the reason i'm not voting today is because theres not independents running in Louisiana!

a fantasy thread would do no good cause of wht you see here, so the fantasy is gone. i use logic. (and although it may not seem like it if you look at my post in this thread)

its just a sells reversal. now looking at it like that its possible, but not logical. remember theres still 6 yrs left in this gen.

just look at it as Sony selling as well as Nintendo has and Nintendo selling as low as PS3 did in the beginning.

i'm not making any justifications for the arguments in this thread.

So next gen begins in 2016? I'd be willing to take my first ever bet on VGChartz that either Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo will release a new system before that.

Nintendo will likely release before that, but imo its a mistake to think that this forces Sony and Microsoft to jump with N. the reason is because whatever N pushes next could likely be less powerful than the PS3 and 360, so that it can compete on the same price scale.

thus Sony and Microsoft might decide not to release new consoles either, because the install bases of their current consoles are imo too low to suggest a new console would reach the same level of success. considering the amount of money both companies have spent on hardware, software, manufacturing, manpower, etc.

not to mention its expensive for current gen developers to work with the existing tech, it puts both in a very veneruble position if they choose to release again soon.

my theory is that PS3 and 360 will remain on the market about 4 - 5 years, Microsoft i'm not so sure, as their counting on the success of Kinect, which imo isnt enought to prolong another 5 years, Sony are in the perfect position to usurp Nintendo should they release again, because they will have the advantage of lead platform development, motion control, blu ray etc, and imo neither Microsoft or Sony want to slug it out but cutting off their current consoles and release again with the same sceneario in the next 2 years. both have worked too hard imo to abandon ship and start again.

agreed and like i said before. expect new consoles to arrive in 2014, but i can see later. they'll find a reason

it's smth like 35m difference, it cannot outsell Wii by 7 million for the next 5 years!?

also, Ps3 needs mega hits like Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit to reach the Wii

GT5 won't boost hardware by much

Without taking any side dont forget Wii may very well be discontinued in 2-3 years.

The thing is, theres reasonable arguments to explain sell going one way or another. I find some are quick to dismiss arguments. Better flip flopp then being convince of the result of multiple factors acting throughout the next years.

Ugh, even if 90% of the people in this topic are sane and realize that PS3 can never catch the Wii, the fact that it's even being debated AT ALL is disheartening to say the least..

What will happen over the next few years isnt rocket science. What I know is, theres as much time remaining than what took Wii to get this advance. The fact you dont even see a possibility AT ALL and insult others for having a debate is disheartening to say the least..

In a world where 10 million plus 15 millon = 35 million it would be easier for the PS3 to catch the Wii. Easier, and yet still completely impossible.

doubt it, but yet its still not worth the time it took me to post it and the time it took you to respond. logicaly it may not happen or be possible, but it in fact it can happen; but to some its just not possible while to others it is.

thats why i say wht i want to say and don't worry how others may view it! its not worth the stress?

I agree, it is indeed possible for 10 million plus 15 million to be 35 million, however, it would require operating in a different vector space than people normally use for simple arithmetic. Of course, for your math to work the plus operator would be redefined to mean a b = a b 10 million which would technically be entirely possible. However, it is a bit disingenuous to operate on a different vector system with a non standard definition of the operators without stating that clearly in your post.

Both Sony and Microsoft have invested a lot more money into their current generation console systems than Nintendo. It would be foolish to assume that either of them would launch a new console ahead of Nintendo for next generation. Nintendo  has been extremely successful, most profitable and has spent a fraction of the costs Sony and Microsoft have spent.

The third party game developers favour Sony and Microsoft but that has cost both Sony and Microsoft a lot more to secure deals than Nintendo. The architecture of both PS3 and 360 are more expensive and time consuming than developing games on the Nintendo Wii. The Wii has some good third party games but the first party titles drive the Wii console sales. IMO Third party and first party games equally help push the sales of the PS3 and 360 console sales.

The exclusive games on the PS3 is where the PS3 stands heads and shoulder ahead of its competitors 360 and Wii in terms of graphics. The PS3 exclusive games such as Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, etc show case the best graphics technology PS3 can offer due to its Blu-Ray technological advantage. Sony has a lot more first and second developers that exclusively develop games for the PS3.

Make no doubt Blu-Ray is here for a long time and it has considerable advantage over DVD game discs. Blu-Ray discs can have more layers and can use both sides which will mean up 200GB of game data: video and audio can be stored on a game disc. Blu-Ray is a developing technology that is yet to realise its full potential. 40 to 50GB storage space is available  on ever single Blu-Ray disc.

Consumers at the moment prefer physical/tangible  games over online/intangible games. Online game distributions are more cost effective and it is growing in popularity but new games are getting bigger in size. Online is very good for smaller sized games. Online game distributions has its limitations due to the high cost of having fast enough broadband/cable that can cope with speeds in excess of 1GB/s . Game sizes will take up more space and more time and money will be needed to develop bigger and better games. Virtual game worlds and environments will continue to blur the line between reality and fantasy.

PS3 is only the beginning of the Blu-Ray evolution. PS3 has made Blu-Ray popular and affordable for more and more consumers over time. Before the PS3 launched in 2006 no one had even heard much about Blu-Ray. As the PS3 popularity grows and price of PS3 decreases and mass market of Blu-Ray grows: PS3 sales will fly pass the 360 and it will close down the gap on the Wii. The PS3 may well overtake the Wii by the end of the 7th generation.

If I didn't know better, I would swear that came off the old SDF website.
