Did you, and I'm not judging by any means, play it on console? Its very much a game that should be played top down on PC, and coupled with the changes to the console version I could see it being very boring on them. On PC there is a lot of strategy and a lot of tension in the battle system.

You have to understand that some people don't give a whit about the battle system, and that it's there primarily as a hurdle to getting to the part of RPGs that they enjoy: interactions. For a lot of people, RPGs find their essence in their interactions with characters in the world, and battles are just a way to fill the time between interactions to lend them gravitas. Probably the best example of a game where nobody cares about the combat is Planescape: Torment.

For people who care primarily about the interactions as the lynchpin of the RPG experience, what they do with the combat is immaterial, and what DA2 is doing (which I'm not clear on, I still haven't seen any gameplay footage) may be a legitimately superior alternative.

Even on the story side you get stuck with commander shep- hawke which severely limits the way in which you can interact with the world. How great would mass effect be if you could play through the game as a turian or Krogan or one of the other races. It would give you an entirely different world view.

Mass Effect wouldn't be legitimately improved by the ability to play as a turian or a krogan or an asari or a volus or whatever. There's still only a certain amount of content that could be crammed in, and the vast majority of NPCs would treat you exactly the same as they did before.

Commander Shepard, like Revan and the Exile, is a partially-defined character exactly because it allows you to put your own thumbprint down on an archetype that makes for effective storytelling. You determine how Shepard reacts to situations, which is what I'm tlaking about here; the interactions would not be enhanced by being able to run around skinned as a krogan. Shit, it wouldn't even allow you the same insight into krogan culture as you already get from Grunt, Wrex, and Mordin.

You're probably right, bioware would definitely fuck it up, just like dragon age 2

...It would be kind of hard for you to not be. Yes. The answer is yes. The question is about what kind of human you are; me, I like being called the Butcher of Torfan.

aha! in dragon age you can be elfs and dwarfs so its diffrent!!!!!!!!

pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you're telling me that every single NPC treats you differently based on your race.

yeah pretty much, not just your race, you can be a peasent dwarf a noble one, a city elf a woodland elf.

that made the game unqiue, also part of the quests in the game has you going back to your place of origin, you can kill your brother, avenge your parents, betray your master, and see your wife.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Not read this thread.

But has the "Dragon Effect 2" joke being used yet? Numerous times?

- Leatherhat unfairly putting down ME2, ME1 and Dragon Age 2

- Me fairly putting down Dragon Age

- Me defending ME Series

- zgamer making out of the blue comments

- Khuutra not using long words

- Khuutra defending ME2

- euphoria talking about Oblivion putting faeces on on ME2

Its actually pretty crowded considering how many people bought the first and are disappointed with the second.

Right... being disappionted with a game that isn't out yet or reviewed is logical.

Dragon Age was great for everything except gameplay. You people bitch about them changing the fighting system and that was the worst thing about Dragon Age. I really enjoyed the story, chracters, atmosphere, but fighting was just so unbelievably boring. The new fighting system looks a lot more entertaining and will likely appeal more to the masses.

People complained about Mass Effect 2 becoming more shooter than RPG. But in the end its selling great and will surpass the sales of the original pretty soon.

I played it for the 360 and PC.

You seem to think everyone bought it because of great strategic gameplay. In reality, people enjoyed the story telling. I mean most discussion about Dragon Age is in regard to the story. So I'm not surprised to see the series is going in direction that can appeal more to the masses.

Look at Fable. A much more popular game and its just a free roaming hack n' slash with witty dialogue.

Horse shit. It's about realisitc expectations in terms of content provided.

The point of Mass Effect is that it's a fully voiced space sci-fi epic wherein you play the role of a bad-ass military commander. Theh uman perspective is intrinsic to the plot, as is the human element in uniting the galaxy. Shit, the bad guys' motives tend to be centered around the human element. The entire plto is built around it.

If you wanted every single NPC to treat you different based on your race your'e asking for a game that has multiple times as much content as Mass Effect currently has, which would not only be shatteringly huge in terms of space necessary but prohibitively expensive to produce. Even if the entire thing wasn't voiced your'e talking a level and degree of dialogue that's utterly unrealistic to expect in any project whatsoever.

You can't qualify BioWare having "fucked up" Mass Effect, and the only aspect you can qualify them "fucking up" Dragon Age 2 in is combat, which we still haven't seen any footage of and which means little, nothing, or worse to a stunning number of players.

Dragon Age Origins actually sold more first quarter it was out than ME or ME2 did in their first quarter so it really puzzles me when people say that DA needs to change to beat ME in sales when it already does.

Are you adding up both Dragon Age on PS3/360 vs ME1 or ME2 just on 360?
