We have this same thread every other week. Are people actually that culturally ignorant?

Culturally ignorant...really? I highly doubt you know all the little grammar/date type things such as this that there are to know from Europe, it has nothing to do with being culturally ignorant, as memorizing how Europeans do little things like this would be, quite frankly, a waste of my memory as it would have very little use to me as an American.

I'm used to saying my birthday is May 26th, 1992, which is mm dd yyyy, not to mention, I had absolutely zero clue that this site was run by a European until after I signed up for it and started using the forums.

I know a good amount of culture from England and Italy, so don't highly doubt anything please...

It's not a little thing actually. The rest (or majority) of the world does it. It's like knowing the difference between kilometers and decimeters and a 24 hour clock is used extensively throughout Earth.

And that's another problem. It helps to know the cultures of other countries, and the mindset of "I'M AN AMERICAN!" isn't all that conducive.

It isn't that I don't want to know, I just don't have a use for it.  If I were to travel to Europe, trust me, I wouldn't be the tourist who is clueless about everything.

I've never really understood the MM/DD/YY format. If it's 2:30 and 41 seconds, you don't mix it up by saying 30:2:41.

DD/MM/YY goes from the smallest length of time to the largest. MM/DD/YY jumps around.

Ordinarily, that would be fine. However:

You people sure are being mean with this 1 lol

I dont think anyone is being mean, except maybe dtwei, who is trying to show how cultured, inclusive, and open-minded he is because he knows Brits dont go by the ol' mm/dd/yy. I would not bet money that someone knows more about British culture just because they know the Brits put the day in front of the month.

I never stopped to think about it in those terms, but it's an interesting point. I know that Japan typically uses YY/MM/DD also, largest to smallest, now that you mention it... maybe we took the Japanese format from our electronics and didn't care about the year? I... really don't know about that bit...
