DD/MM/YY goes from the smallest length of time to the largest. MM/DD/YY jumps around.

I never stopped to think about it in those terms, but it's an interesting point. I know that Japan typically uses YY/MM/DD also, largest to smallest, now that you mention it... maybe we took the Japanese format from our electronics and didn't care about the year? I... really don't know about that bit...
