I love the old 2D side scrollers like Contra hard corps and beat em ups. I still play with my mega drive.
I also like action/adventure, rts, arcade racers, platformers and fps (COD 4 is still my favorite in multiplayer)

My favorite is easy- classic JRPGs. I maintain to this day that the 16-bit era was the best for them, and I will happily play one again from this time. More modern JRPGs are more hit-and-miss; sure, there are some real gems, but there are also some stinkers. After this is easily puzzle games. I like games that make me think, I guess...

FPS probably because its what I'm best at. I fuck kids up in the Call of Duty series. I suck at Halo though.
I also like some racing games, Western RPG's, some 3rd person shooters, and some sports games.
Hard to describe it exactly, but basically third person action/adventure games. Any game that gives me a large, detailed, and interesting world to explore, puzzles to solve that are integrated well into the gameworld, items to find, interesting NPCs to talk to and/or help, and a simple action-based control scheme. Mostly Zelda-ish games, though some RPGs fall under this umbrella as well - RPGs that don't inundate you with too many numbers and don't have generic copy/paste level and NPC design.
Games I would fit in this category:
3D Zelda
Okami
Demon's Souls
Shadow of the Colossus
Possibly Ico as well, though it's kinda borderline given the smaller scale of its gameworld and its emphasis on platforming. And neither Ico nor Shadow of the Colossus have many cool items to find, but that's the least important of my "rules" I suppose.
Final Fantasy!
Wait, not really a genre...
Well RPG's I probably like WRPG's more than most JRPG's, but I like some of the Final Fantasy more than WRPG's.
But OT.
RPG's and then Probably uhh
Whatever the hell metal gear is? Action game I guess. And then Probably RTS's but my love has dwindled with this genre, since supreme commander community got small(er)
My Favorite Genres
Japanese Pop Culture Otaku
The most loved and therefor most hated genre of them all
First person shooters.
May the adjustments be with you

I feel a disturbance in the sales
My favorie genre is the Platformer. I gotta say, this generation has been great for the Platformer fan. It's great to see more and more 2D Platformers come on the scene as well. ^_^
Second favorite is the Action-Adventure genre.
