All I have to say is, Zelda: OOT

Best game ever. This gen's games dont even come close.

Fixed.

Agreed! This gen is mediocre at best

What's mediocre about it?

The quality of the titles, and the fact that most of the games are full of bugs because developers dont take their time to make a good game, instead they rush them to make more money. Also, no revolutionary game was released. They are all clones... All I saw was Rockstar clones, tomb raider - prince of persia clones and shoot em ups. Even great games like Oblivion and Heavy Rain were based on something else.

This gen has nothing to offer .

You know many of the games in previous gens were based on previous ideas as well, correct? There are plenty of quality games this gen, (on all 3 consoles) even if they don't reach your expectations.

Yes, Oblivion was based on past ideas, but succeeded where previous games didn't. Doesn't make it mediocre. HEAVY RAIN did things no other game has ever done before, which was quite revolutionary. No game plays like it, so you're wrong there.

Don't know what you expected from this gen, but calling games mediocre (or saying it has nothing to offer) just because they are similar to games in the past, is irrational if you ask me.

Hate to burst your bubble but Heavy Rain wasn't revolutionary at all...

Indigo Prophesy was first to do what Heavy Rain did... thing is nobody knew about Indigo Prophesy because nobody bought it or liked that style of game-play which sucks. But just letting you know Heavy Rain was not the first of it's kind, but it's ok anyone could've made that mistake since the genre (movie-game genre as people called it) that Heavy Rain is extremely niche, like-wise it's amount games (2 games?).

All gaming systems, consoles/PC, have thier perks... why fight over preferences? I like Coke and you like Pepsi, that's it, let's not fight over which toy we like best cause that's what they are. Is someone's preference in a toy important or is the relationship between you and your neighbor more important? Answer is obvious, but THE most important thing is your relationship with God almighty. God Bless you in Jesus's name.

I can communicate without talking... I can send a loved one money without actually sending money... and I can commit theft without the product disappearing, the point of theft is the point of theft not one of it's possible symptoms which is the product dissappearing. The thief wants to gain something without paying for it, that's the point of theft, the thief doesn't have to care or anybody else has to care if the product dissappears. The product dissappearing is just a possible symptom of theft. Gifts are sacrfices, in order to give a gift, it has to be a genuine sacrfice/gift, meaning a copy of the game isn't still in your PC. Piracy is theft and/or being a culprit of theft.

Errr... yes, because reviews are subjective.

I mean, otherwise GTA IV is the best game this gen...

First of all I don't put Oblivion and Heavy Rain among the rest of the games.I called them great, and they are my favorite games this gen.

I play video games since I was 5 , Ι've owned even for a short while almost every console  that was released, and it's the first time that I call a generation mediocre. The only other console I can compare to the 7th generation ones is the Mega Drive, only this time there isn't a Super Nintendo around to equalize things...

I don't have a problem with anyone enjoying this gen, but I've played more than enough games to have an opinion on the matter, and apart from the visuals the new consoles havent offered me anything new that would make me call a title masterpiece.

examples of previous gens:  NES -Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3

SNES-FFIV,VI ,Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country 1,2

PS - Castlevania:Symphony of the Night, FFVII, Metal Gear Solid, resident Evil,Silent Hill

n64 - Zelda Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, GoldenEye,Lylat Wars

PS2 -Resident Evil 4, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, GTA Vice City,Rez,FF X,XII

                                                  also on the PC: Half-Life ,Diablo,Starcraft,Baldur's Gate 1,2 , Riven,Monkey Island series

now those were a few examples where games took the experience to another level. There are more, those were the first to come in mind. The games of this gen which are considered great: Halo series, GTAIV, Uncharted series and COD:Modern Warfare .... Online Shoot em Ups, a GTA inferior to Vice City and a good game (UC2) which is based on tomb raider. Now compare those to any of the above. Am I the only one who sees there's a huge gap of quality?

You're not really giving this gen much credit and selling it very short. Many of the titles you listed were great (and still are great). But look at the great titles we've had this gen:

Multiplat: Fallout 3, Oblivion, Half-Life 2 & episodes, Portal, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, Dragon Age Origins, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Assassins Creed 2

PC: Starcraft 2, Crysis, The Witcher, Empire Total War

PS3: Uncharted 2 (which is only 40% like Tomb Raider), Killzone 2, MAG, Metal Gear Solid 4, Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet, God of War 3

360: Gears of War series, Fable series, Halo series, Forza series

Wii: Zelda (with one to follow), Wii Sports, All Metroid Primes, 2X Mario Galaxy games, Wii Sports Resort, NSMB Wii, No More Heroes

And still to be released: Little Big Planet 2, Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Rising, Mass Effect 3, Crysis 2, Assassins Creed with Multiplayer, Dragon Age 2, The Last Guardian, FFXIII Vs, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, E.Y.E etc.

You've also failed to acknowledge all the smaller and cheaper games and indie titles available online (Live, PSN, Steam, Wii Ware) that weren't previously available for consoles and weren't readily accessible, even on PC. Games like Mount & Blade, Minecraft, Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light, Flower, Flow etc. would be lucky to see the light of day in the past.

Seriously, I think nostalgia is warping your view of past gens. There are plenty of quality titles this gen from a range of genres. Many have made their way into my top 25 games, with a few even making my top 5.

.... yay for list wars!

There are a lot of great games in this generation but I agree to the fact there isn't much innovation. However, this is not surprise but the reality in how things evolve. There aren't much difference between the NES and SNES generations except for the graphics. The N64 generation introduced real 3D graphics that were perfected last generation and the current generation introduced online modes (PS3/360) and motion controls (Wii). Thus, I'm not surprised that software development also find hard to bring innovations in the field. It was easy in the 1980s as everything was new and the whole scenario was under construction. Nowadays, as gaming is better established, it is harder to get anything new.

Still, I checked quite a few very innovative and good (there is no point of being creative without doing a good job) games in this generation: Wii Sports (motion controls and Miis enhancing the familiarity of the experience), Demon's Souls (original online mode allowing cooperation and competition), and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (game adapts to player psychological feedback changing the environment). Also, there are dozens ofinnovative, though not groundbreaking, games in this generation: Bioshock (inventive setting creation and presentation), Prince of Persia 2008 (innovative checkpoint system), Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (superior acting), Super Mario Galaxy (groundbreaking use of physics in a platform game), and many others.

P.S.: Sorry Heavy Rain fans. I tried to like it but I couldn't.:(

Well Enslaved is not really innovative as it was inspired by Uncharted 2 when it comes to animation and acting.

You could also point to their (Ninja Theory) earlier game Heavenly Sword (before Uncharted 1) for acting and motion cap animation.

I'm gonna vote for the system that gave me 3D camera controls, Z-targeting, and rumble, and not for the system that took rumble away, insulted it, then brought it back with all those apologies and big puppy dog eyes, and then dropped backwards compatibility.

Also, Bomberman 64, GoldenEye 007 and/or Perfect Dark, Star Fox 64, Mario Kart 64, perfect party console.

But then again you don't have a PS3...

Indigo Prophecy laid a foundation for HEAVY RAIN, yes, but HEAVY RAIN still did things that Indigo couldn't dream of, motion control for instance (and this is without the Move controller). Forget plenty of other things it did that no other game has.

I really don't want to turn this into a "HEAVY RAIN wasn't revolutionary" debate. It'll veer too far off topic and I would be here all day picking it apart, so let's just agree to disagree on it.

And yeah, no bubble bursted, I'm afraid.

I thought motion controls was done first by Nintendo and Sega ages ago... w/e I don't know how you see Heavy Rain as revolutionary but we don't have to talk about it.

Are you sure? I can think of at least 2 other games  that have a higher reviews aggregate.
