Awesome HD Numbers. Great sales for PS3 and X360.

I'm more lolling at the Wii Japan Numbers. Each week the PS3 and Wii weekly sale gap gets larger. Can someone tell me why that's happening in Japan? Have they just really lost interest in the Wii and PS3 just picking up really well?

And unfortunately Castlevania and Enslaved flopped... Though I kinda thought that Enslaved would flop but I hope to see Castlevania have good legs.

It may be the Move's coming release.  Japan may begin to slowly replace their Wii's with PS3's and Moves.  Maybe not.  But I do see Move being well recieved in Japan.

And wow at the new 360/PS3 gap.  So PS3 can reduce the gap again, even with it being outsold by the 360 on a weekly basis.  Man, it truly can do EVERYTHING!

Why is everyone teaming up again the Wii? Where are the Wii Warriors of Light and Wi Elite Defense Force at moments like these?

We have other things to worry about, like how to afford all the games coming the next few months.

Loving the sarcasm. Lol

Very sad by the low sales for Castlevania:LoS and Enslaved on both X360/PS3. :(

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

hmmm.....

just last week, I said that now the gap between 360 and PS3 hardware is back to 5.5 million World Wide, which is what the gap was when the PS3 first launched, which was one year after the 360 launch.

But now....

it's less?   Back down to 5.1 million?

wow, quite big adjustments

anyways, if you align the launches of the 360 and PS3, the PS3 is actually doing quite a bit better than the 360 hardware wise.  If they released at the same time, the PS3 would be ahead of the 360 in World Wide hardware.....

Mentioning that made me go back to when the gap was its lowest, and it seems that for the week ending June 12th, we now have the gap at only 4.06 million.

Interesting how wide it keeps swinging.  This generation is really like no other.

at the other extreme, at one point in 2009, the World Wide PS3-360 hardware gap was almost 8 million....

and then it shrank down to  less than 4.5 million or as you said 4.06 million

anyway, the PS3 slim/price cut really did it's job, the PS3 hardware boost lasted quite a well....

the 360 slim increased that gap, but we'll see which way it goes next.....

I'm glad there are a few here who recognise the situation. If you're not growing, you're dying. And in this case the whole industry is dying, especially considering the rate at which the costs grow in this business.

Comparing to last gen reminds me of the TV industry/commentators that say they're doing fine because they're still above revenue from the early nineties... Last gen was 5 years ago now, it's a great way to set standards low enough to pass, but it ignores the realities of the situation.

The videogame market follows cycles in each of the gens which are almost always very similiar, a boom at the start of the generation which slows as time goes on. The next generation starts the next boom. In reality as far as revenue goes the videogame market is expanding quite rapidly as long as you don't only compare to the last boom, but rather to the cycle.

What is the evidence for the PS3 sales adjustment based on? Does it mean in the past few weeks, PS3 was already outsold than 360 in EMEAA region? 400K adjustment is quite big and it needs to show us some evidences.

Pretty horrible numbers all around. Whole market is way way down. X360 barely up yoy, PS3, DS, PSP and Wii way down. These numbers are horrible even compared to same week during 2007. Fortunately we get next year 3DS and PSP2 which should ensure that industry will be growing next year again. 2008 is still the best year gaming market has seen.

Some of you people need to seriously see what the Gamecube and Xbox did last gen weekly

Not to mention how when Gamecube And Xbox uset to get most NPD's between 180K - 230K was seen as "very good"

The console market is doing brilliantly compared to the past

people forget 1 year ago PS3 had a price cut and got slim and Wii had a price cut too

hence the massive YOY decline for consoles.

I'm sorry , but you must be seeing the whole thing through rose-tinted glasses if you think everything is alright and probably that this gen will last until 2014. It won't - and if the massive decline we are experiencing right now isn't clear enough yet, just wait until February or so.

Maybe good sales could go on a little longer with PS3 at $199, but we'll see at least two new plaftforms next year and the remaining ones just twelve months later at most.

Did you read my post?

I think your the one seeing this through pink tinted glasses

Let me break it down:

1. This generation isn't IMMUNE to decline......yet we have 1 console in its 5th year on the market up YOY......that is virtually unheard of especially considering this console is in 2nd place, not even 1st place.

2. The reason for Wii's YOY decline is obvious, its games library. That issue of a drought has caught up to the Wii, and now one year ago it had a price cut.....so the YOY decline looks even worse......but again IT HAD A PRICE CUT 1 YEAR AGO....of course YOY will look worse.

3. You know the reason for PS3's YOY decline, I won't even bother saying why.

4. Now the consoles in points 2 and 3 are both in their 4th year (so past what is usually the peak year which takes place in a consoles 3rd year in its life)......and one of them isn't even at Mass Market price point showing future potential.

You keep going on about Massive Decline....well that is expected, I would be surprised if PS3 wasn't at a massive decline in terms of YOY sales.

Sorry to break it to you but this generations isn't doomed, I really don't know how people came to this conclusion.

However every year manages to grow as software sales peak beyond the hardware peak. This time the industry is not managing that, as the whole business has fallen dramatically two years in a row.

No, it's not expected. In previous generations late cycle software peaks make up for the hardware decline. This isn't happening now.

Also, having reasons for a decline doesn't make the situation any less healthy. Those reasons aren't about to disappear.

What sarcasm? There ARE a lot of big games upcoming: DK Returns, Kirby now, GoldenEye, Epic Mickey, Fliying Smash, Sonic Colors, and others I don't remember.

Above: still the best game of the year.
