Silicon Knights, Activision Developing X-Men: Destiny
by Eric Caoili

Activision and Marvel Entertainment have teamed up to create X-Men: Destiny, a new game based on the comic book mutant heroes and developed by Too Human studio Silicon Knights.

Though Activision hasn't announced which platforms Destiny will appear on or what genre the game will be, the publisher revealed that the title will ship for multiple consoles next fall. It's also disclosed that Mike Carey -- writer for graphic novels like The Unwritten, Hellblazer, and X-Men: Legacy -- will pen Destiny's storyline.

A teaser trailer for Destiny posted on IGN revealed silhouettes of staple X-Men characters like Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, and Magneto. Activision adds that the game "casts players as new mutant recruits in a rich, branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny. "

Silicon Knights has been quiet since it released Too Human for Xbox 360 in August 2008. Several months ago, the Denis Dyack-led studio received a grant for nearly $4 million from the Canadian government, which it planned to spend on hiring 65 new employees who would help build a "top tier" title over the next two to five years.

This is the second video game based on a Marvel Entertainment property announced this week -- two days ago, Sega revealed Captain America: Super Soldier, a third-person action adventure title releasing for Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, Wii, and Nintendo DS next year. Next Level Games (Punch Out!!) is working on the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions.

==================

I'm interested because:

A) I'm a big X-Men Fan

B) It's a 'create your own character' X-Men RPG

Then at the same time I've skeptical because:

A) Activision is involved

B) SIlicon Knights

The thing that will ultimately decided whether I buy this game or not next year is the gameplay. Crappy gameplay? Hell no. So I'm really hoping this turns out to be a good X Men Game...

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I would have been hyped, but then I saw it was Activision publishing it, So I said Meh

too bad Silicon Knights I would have loved seeing what you would come up with......O_o WELL

i think that idea is the same as the first Xmen Legends, which was a great game , you play as a girl who just learned that she is a mutant and you interact with other mutants in the mansion, while training to master your own powers, then you become powerful enough to join the xmen, its very fun to just walk around the mansion talking to other mutants, and do the trainings.

No

But it does mean they're not working on Eternal Darkness 2 and 3

Didn't activision badmouth all independent developers just a week ago?

Activision has badmouthed everyone.

MS, Sony... and any company that develops games.

They are still very dependent on them though.
