I am so tired of everyone refering to FPS games are the HARDCORE! I do agree that PC FPS games are but I know so many stupid Xbox fanboys who know nothing about games but they play Halo, and its Teh best GamE EVAR!, OMG they drive me crazy, and the only other games they own is Call of Duty, Tom Clancy, Madden,  Tony Hawk, and some lame ass Motocross game.    I know so many people who only play those game who are retarted High Schoolers just cuz its cool.

 So Please stop referring to Halo, CoD etc, as Hardcore, too be fair this class also includes Goldeneye, all other Bond Games. Basically FPS games are for older casual gamers who like violance and pretty graphics.

 Note- Some Hardcore gamers love FPS games, and if you play them all you are hardcore, just saying FPS games are by no means FPS, in fact in the US they are the Zenith of Casual. Japan and Europe are a slightly different story.

You're right. All hardcore gamers spend 10 hours a day grinding a full party of mages in Disgaea up to level 9999. Leave the shooters for those pansy-arse casuals. They can't handle a REAL game.

This gives NO explanation as to why it is casual.

So what game types do hardcore gamers play?

Well, I don't agree completely, but somewhat.
The most casual games there are are games such as Sims, and the number of people playing these games are significantly higher than those who play FPS'.
Even the most sold FPS on PC has scarce numbers compared to most other genres.

I made it clear that hardcore gamers can like I FPS games, but FPS games are definitly not hardcore in themselves. (I always see them referred to as what makes the 360 the Zenith of hardcore.)

I would say someone that plays halo 4 hours a week is not hardcore
but someone that plays Wii Sports and Raving Rabids 12 hours a week is.

It is not the genre that makes it hardcore it is the devotion.

That doesn't make it for casual gamers.

I think some FPS's can be both.

About 10 years ago we had a gaming revolution which rapidly expanded the market. The rise of the Playstation meant that the "Core" gamers who loved platforming, adventure games, and 2D rpgs were no longer as important as the "Casual" gamers who enjoyed sports games, racing games, stealth games, FPS and anything 'Mature'.

Those of us who are old enough to remember know that the key franchises change, that the "Core" gamer who is important today will not always rule the roost.
