| Buddha_Maitreya said: I believe there have been flood, but honestly.. How do you explain the relative ages of mountains? For example, why weren't the Sierra Nevadas eroded as much as the Appalachians during the Flood? Why is there no evidence of a flood in ice core series? Ice cores from Greenland have been dated back more than 40,000 years by counting annual layers.A worldwide flood would be expected to leave a layer of sediments, noticeable changes in salinity and oxygen isotope ratios, fractures from buoyancy and thermal stresses, a hiatus in trapped air bubbles, and probably other evidence. Why doesn't such evidence show up? How are the polar ice caps even possible? Such a mass of water as the Flood would have provided sufficient buoyancy to float the polar caps off their beds and break them up. They wouldn't regrow quickly. In fact, the Greenland ice cap would not regrow under modern (last 10 ky) climatic conditions. Why did the Flood not leave traces on the sea floors? A year long flood should be recognizable in sea bottom cores by (1) an uncharacteristic amount of terrestrial detritus, (2) different grain size distributions in the sediment, (3) a shift in oxygen isotope ratios (rain has a different isotopic composition from seawater), (4) a massive extinction, and (n) other characters. Why do none of these show up? Why is there no evidence of a flood in tree ring dating? Tree ring records go back more than 10,000 years, with no evidence of a catastrophe during that time. |
Begone with your insight and reason!
Masterfully put, and I'm sure there are one thousand other flaws and logical tears to be explored in the Noah myth (along with pretty much everything else in the greatest work of fiction ever).
Lara Croft would find the answers to these mysteries before Nathan Drake would. Nathan would just shoot everybody.

Concerning the flood and the ark, in nathans case noah and is trigger happy posse woudl go down in a hail of bullets but the animals will be fine but with lara the ark would be littered with dead animals.
Research shows Video games help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot
pretty interesting book on the topic:

Plenty of sunken cities etc. out there.
massive flooding and rise of sea level occurred ~10000 years ago during global warming at the end of the last ice age.
this would have occurred relatively gradually and in many different places at different times depending on factors such as the thickness of the ice, latitude, and how much water (if any) was trapped beneath the sheets. certainly it would not have happened all at once.
where else did all the water from massive ice sheets like the North American ice sheet go?
not sure how much of it to take with a pinch of salt though but the fact of sunken cities remeins.

So, the whole world has flood myths? i wonder who wrote them, when according to the bible only Noah and his family survived the great flood.
And how would the ethnicities have come to pass? Did Noah have a African and Chinese son in law? i don't think evolution could be part of that equation.
And why did Noah not save the dinosaurs that were living amongst men according to your other thread? i do not remember god making any exceptions in the holy book!
...oh, and no, i don't want any answers
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Fixed.
Also, Lara Croft would in no way solve this mystery.
She would promptly strip down to some very revealing clothing in preparation for her big dive, then she would drown due to really shitty swimming based controls, then the fuckstick controlling her would decide that the plot can go hang, and spend the rest of the afternoon backing her into a corner to force the camera to zoom in on her exposed fleshy parts
What are the chances of death? 100% eventually.
What are the percentages of societies with death rituals / beliefs in afterlife? almost 100%
Tease.

Historically such events get ascribed significance beyond what they really are, often involving deities, trials and punishments. In short - easy explainable common roots and proof of absolutely nothing except how similar various human societies are in how they historically tried to explain events outside their control. |
If this was Facebook I would be giving you a big "like" right now... Sort it out ioi.

Good point, we'd hardly need a tsunami for these stories to come about.
