My guess is that Retro's next project is either another Donkey Kong, another Metroid game, or a new IP.

Yeah. And I guess that tomorrow it will either rain, be sunny or neither. Profound guessing skills.

I think Nintendo will give Metroid back to Retro after the less than stellar Other:M.

Personally I think Other: M desevered to bomb for its stupid name alone. Other M? Seriously? It needs more explosiveness, like Metroid: Inception. Anything else would be better.

It's name makes perfect sense for the game.  The story focus's on samus' mother-daughter connection with the baby metroid and the whole series actually revolves around mother daughter relationships.  Mother-brain the pirates made to control the metroid.  Queen metroid which naturally controls the metroid.  In Other M Madeline and Melissa Bergman are introduced another mother-daughter relationship.  Samus's character never had a mother because her whole family was killed by Ridley and so she becomes attached to Adam as a sole parental figure, but he is of course male.  the name Other M was chosen because of it's obvious acronym MoM, or Mom.  The names not stupid, but someone who can't figure out what the game they just spent 10-12 hours playing is about possibly is.

Of course there's a reason to call it Other M, they didn't just pluck it from thin air. It makes a lot of sense too. But bottom line, it's still a very dull word for a game title. Mayaswell have called it 'Different M' or 'Relative M'. It has absolutely NO zing to it, no wow factor. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Halo: Reach, Burnout: Revenge, these are good subtitles. 'Other' never will be.

How is the word Other any different from the word Reach?  Anybody who hasn't already played the past five Halo games wouldn't gather anything more about a game called Halo:Reach than Metroid: Other M.  Also when it comes to choosing subtitles you should be glad it has something to do with the story and has meaning behind it instead of being simple buzzwords like 'revenge', ressurrection, returns, or extreme.  Out of what you listed only Uncharted gives you a good sense of what you'll experience and sounds exciting at the same time.

Kayima's been pushing for it so hard, I half expect Platinum Games to get signed for the next Star Fox.  I really wish Nintendo would work with Nagoshi's team (Sega NE1) again on a new F-Zero.

SEGA New Entertainment Software (R&D Dept. 1) formerly Amusement Vision/Smilebit should definetly work on the next F-Zero, in fact they should be the only ones given the franchise.  They just need to make a good tutorial mode this time so people won't complain about the difficulty so much.

Also think Platinum Games could make a great Star Fox and that Retro should make a multiplayer online FPS next.

Exactly. You hit the nail on the haid there - 'Other M' may give you a good sense of what you're describing, but I personally dont think it is exciting enough. It just isn't. It is too bland a word to be in a title, in my opinion. It's not exciting enough, and though Metroid fans may argue, it is surely something that will have put some people (non-fans) off.

And for the record, Reach is a much much better subtitle - it suggests searching, variety, expansion, discovery. Other suggests... an alternative. Wow.

Reach is a pretty bland word, just admit it.  If you're going to claim it gives you a sense of variety and discovery while the word Other doesn't you're really reaching for it...  What does the word other imply?  an alternative yes, or another threat, the other world, the other enemy, the other side of the story.  Both words can generate the same amount of intrigue.

Agreed!

Veder Juda is hand crafted from EPIC FAIL, and is a 96% certified Looney; the other 4% is a work in progress.

I will keep saying New IP, they have the talent. A small team can keep working on a Donkey Kong Country Returns sequel.

hopefully not donkey kong. They are too talented for that. Make some new Adult IP for next gen would be cool.

are you serious? was any part of any of that post said with a straight face and a sound mind?

yes it was, Retro are better then that. If Nintendo is to capture back some of the core audience they need a good fps, or another genre adult oriented game. Retro would have the skill set to achieve this.

Donkey Kong can be made by any one of the Nintendo Teams.

If it could be made by any team, why it wasn't?

Above: still the best game of the year.

a game like Metroid Dread (3ds) or Starfox(wii).
