Forums - Nintendo - Which franchise is next for Retro?

I figure that they'll be working on DKC for awhile; Metroid is over for them as well as being in the hands of someone taking it in a bold, new direction and I can't see them shifting to a new franchise yet.

Pretty much.  After DKCR3, we'll see them move on to something new.

Personally I'd like to see them do an original IP.

i imagine a follow-up to DKC is not out of the question.  if not DKC then metroid, star-fox, or f-zero would seem the best fits to me.

Metroid Prime 4 or a brand new IP.

STARFOX OR ORIGINAL IP.

Metroid is a definite nono after 3 games from them in that series.

Give metroid prime franchise a rest guys, what really need retro is starfox and f-zero. We all know that nintendo don't know what to do with starfox franchise and I am sure retro can do something awesome with it!

Blah blah original IP blah

Retro is going to be reviving old franchises, not creating Raven Blade for Super Wii.

Hopefully another Metroid game.  Other M was a huge step backward from the Prime series.  Whoever thought that controls in 3D space with a joypad was a good idea should be fired.  The first person rooted to the ground while firing missiles thing was nonsense too.  And don't get me started about how I had to stop playing for 10-15 minutes at a time to watch a long and boring cutscene...

I think they deserve a chance to make an original IP, specially since they already are working on something with a small team, maybe they can take a break from the Nintendo old games, leave a small team working in sequels to DKCR and give the new idea a big group to build something great and new.

In terms of control and momentum, Other M was a HUGE step forward from Prime.  I'll not miss floaty tank Samus.

The problems with Other M were it's awful story (which was like the antithesis of immersion) and overly restricted world design (it wasn't even really like Metroid until the post-game).  Prime did those better certainly, but that's really only half the Metroid experience.

Interesting.  I thought that MP3's controls were as smooth as butter.  That's just me though.

I am with you about the story and how Samus was confined to a ship.  I prefer exploring strange and beautiful worlds.
