In terms of control and momentum, Other M was a HUGE step forward from Prime. I'll not miss floaty tank Samus.
The problems with Other M were it's awful story (which was like the antithesis of immersion) and overly restricted world design (it wasn't even really like Metroid until the post-game). Prime did those better certainly, but that's really only half the Metroid experience.
