'Let me make Dreamcast 2' - Sonic creator!

Hell yeah we need Dreamcast 2! 65 48.87%

Hell no! Sega should only be making software 19 14.29%

I have no opinion on the matter 14 10.53%

They could but it wouldn't be successful 26 19.55%

I can only Dream it will happen 9 6.77%

Total:133

pretty.. unlikely. But sure a refreshing thought, i think we would have a much more interresting Console War going on if DC2 was there to mess with N, S and M.

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

Ok, is there any way we can focus, not on the ridiculous (DC2) part of the interview but instead on him wanting to be part of a console design team?

He's no longer part of Sega, so technically he could work in this capacity with any of the current (or future ...) console manufacturers.  But do they want his input?  And should they?

As much as I have enjoyed his work in the early-to-mid 90's, its been a long time since he's produced a compelling piece of hardware.  That being the case, is it a bit naive (arrogant?) of him to see himself as a creative force in the industry to the extent that he could successfully contribute to a consoles development in a capacity not unlike one Miyamoto?

Yuji Naka is not the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm so sick of him perpetuating that fraud.

As if Sega's got the capital for that anymore

Though under the Wii model of constant profitability, it could work. But they would still need a great helluva lot of R&D funding that they probably don't have

Sega never had the kind of capital MS and Sony are dropping now.

Sega doesn't have a huge following either.

We're just dormed... :( ... we are with many... at least 5 of us are on the site.. 5!

We shall not be destroyed! We shall asexaully multiply like our parents did to make us Sega Fans/Fanboys/Fangirls!?!!

We might multiply if Sega genuinely made good games.

Using their classic IPs wouldn't hurt either.

For example, what if a Sega fan went into a coma in 2000 and just came back today? He would be very disappointed!

His programming made the original game possible, or at least made it what it is.

You would have to be prepared to drop billions of dollars to get a console to market and expect  not to see any profit at least to the next gen  and thats if you have been succesful in making head way, Today we have 3 makers with the Wii having enough of a differential from theHD twins to make it work even then Sony has lost billions this gen and  got to  a stage that some people reported that the Playstation including  the PS1 and PS2 's profits had been eaten up by the PS3 and there best case scenario( IE ten years or more of ps3 on the market and all remaining years profitable) is for the PS3 having enough turaround for the PS1/2 &3 combined to be back in the black in some small way and thats not something to smile about.

So i think three is tight and next gen the console makers will factor this three way battle into there strategy far more than last gen. Since there last foray into the market there Ips don't resonate like they once did and there competion software wise  have grown plus  i don't really think 3rd partys are going to split development resources even further .

Console manufacturers never used to drop billions of dollars to make new hardware. Actually, Sega is the company that always had the easiest time making new hardware since they based their consoles off of their arcade boards.

Console manufacturers never used to drop millions of dollars to make new hardware. Actually, Sega is the company that always had the easiest time making new hardware since they based their consoles off of their arcade boards.

Yes they did drop large amounts  not to the extent of today but it still cost a lot  in terms of R&D and associated costs and gets more expensive each year, the arcade was a great stream of revenue and  using a custom chip set based on the home console meant you could port the games over cheaply both ways  and has to whether they based the home console off the arcade board or the other way around I'm not to sure on but either way it  gave them another revenue stream one that Sony also benefited from  as well with Namco using custom PlayStation chip sets but all said and done that was an aspect of the industry thats pretty much done and dusted ,Sega today would have to borrow heavily to re enter the business.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

If they make it, they shouldn't give it that name. It's like how every fictional spaceship named Titanic ends up getting exploded.

I agree he did not pacifically mean SEGA should do another Console but I think he is pointing out that the SEGA DREAMCAST was the last dedicated hardcore gaming console before SONY and MICROSOFT turned consoles into a multimedia center of sorts with gaming as a fetcher and not the primary function.

so I think he meant that he would like to work with one of the current 3 or some new player to make something like that again.
