Forums - General - bad toothache

One of my wisdom teeth broke two days ago and I've been taking tylenol without keeping track of the dosage.

I took around 12 tablets in the last 24 hours, which as I understand it is a bit over the maximum recommended dosage (~6000mg instead of ~4000).

I stopped taking them but I hope that my liver is in good shape. :(

Stop taking so many tablets it was very silly to do that no matter the pain!

And I can understand how much it hurts, tooth aches are the WORST (along with ear acheS)!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

For some reason it took me a while to realize what I was doing. When I'm out on campus and not at home, I'm always a little dozy. :/

The recommended dose of Tylenol is 4000mg a day but that's not the maximum dose.  It's commonly prescribed at 2g four times a day (8g/day) in the hospital setting for baseline pain control and that is still considered safe.

There is however a very small percentage of people that can develop liver failure at such doses but it is very rare.  Anyay you shouldn't be taking any painkillers longer than a few days without seeing a doctor, or in this case a dentist.

I have an appointment in twelve hours. Thanks for the information, it is somewhat reassuring.

Ibuprofen is much better for tooth pain, pick up some advil or just generic ibuprofin, I've found in most cases it helps even better then the 'stronger' pain killers they give you at the dentist.

I had four wisdom teeth removed in between rounds of chemotherapy and ate a cheeseburger with mustard and pickles less than two hours after the operation...  Just sayin'

STAY AWAY FROM TYLENOL!!!

Ibuprofen is MUCH safer.

Don't you know where to get some vicoden or some oxycotin? Get with the times.

Just take some sleeping pills, like 25 or so. It'll help you get to sleep faster and trust me the pain will be gone by the morning.

I'm thinking of doing it tonight too.

Mine are coming through at the moment. And so far don't hurt in the slightest.
