I dunno, Dragon Quest came out of the handheld shift pretty well. Certainly better than Final Fantasy did in the HD shift. ;)

Erm.
Dragon Quest IX - 4.91 Million
Final Fantasy XIII - 5.82 Million
And what's funny about what you actually said is this -
Kingdom Hearts hasn't done as well with a handheld shift. If we look at the main series (BBS, as I've now learned) games...

Erm... we're talking franchise transitions. As in PS2 to DS versus PS2 to HD.
In Japan, BBS did almost as well as KH1 on PS2 though, which more than can be said for FFXIII (it didn't come close to any of the PS2 FFs). The problem with PSP is outside Japan... when even Metal Gear Solid bombs on a PlayStation format, you know there's a problem. I doubt we'll see the same issues with KH3D.
BBS should've really been a Wii game. It'd have been HUGE in the west.

Yeah. Transitions. PS2 to PSP. It's still a handheld...
And the point still stands. You got proven wrong. Wooooo!
And as for what you just said about BBS being a Wii game. The same could be said for if it was a PS3/360 game. It's arguable that it would have sold more...

lol @ Jarrod in denial over PS360 game sales.

What point got proven wrong?
FFX (PS2): 7.95m -> FFXIII (360/PS3): 5.82m
DQVIII (PS2): 4.99m -> DQIX (DS): 4.91m
...tell me again, which is the better transition? If you'd like I'll amend my statement to Nintendo handheld, since Sony seems incapable of creating a decent handheld software marketplace in any region where Monster Hunter doesn't do it for them. ;)
As for BBS, I said Wii because development costs would've been basically identical and SE Osaka even already has an inhouse engine up and running on the system (it's powering Mario Sports Mix). Also, the KH audience (kids and families, Disney fans, SE fans) likely has the most overlap with the massive mainstream Wii base (70% of which also owned PS2s in America btw), I'm not really sure a HD version would even sell more to be honest.

Well you didn't exactly get proven wrong, it just proved a point for me. Kingdom Hearts hasn't exactly had a good transition from console to portables.
For the transitions though, it's stupid. Especially for the Final Fantasy one. It's not going to match X lifetime sales in under a year (6 Months in the West). It's still not had it's usual re-releases (which now probably wont help that much, being 360 exclusive)... But yeah. It's going to top out at a big enough number. Probably close to (over) 7 Million at the end of its run. So it's not as bad as you like to make it sound.
True on the point about development costs. But I'm still pretty confident that if BBS was a HD title, it would have sold a lot better. Probably 1/1.5 M on the 360, 1.5/2 on the PS3.
And I don't believe that 70% Wii owners owned PS2's thing. It's pretty much refuting any points that say the Wii has expanded the market by a huge amount. Could you show me the link so I could read up more on it? We will just have to agree to disagree about BBS HD/Wii sales
