We must colonize the planet right way now!

{prays scientists make some breakthrough to be able to travel faster than the speed of light}

You may as well pray that scientists develop a breaktrhough to make people stand stiller then still.

Every joke in the world and you go with THAT?

It's not a joke.

It's another way to conceive the speed of light.

It literally is as fast as we can go.  At best we can hope to go "around" a lot of space.

There are certain instances under very specific conditions that light's speed is surpassed IIRC.

I propose that we increase the speed of light and we make ships that can travel 99.99994% as quickly as the new speed.

Don't forget  "Warp speed will kill you."  :)

http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/warp-speed-kills-100308.html

"Captain Kirk might want to avoid taking the starship Enterprise to warp speed, unless he's ready to shrug off interstellar hydrogen atoms that would deliver a lethal radiation blast to both ship and crew.

There are just two hydrogen atoms per cubic centimeter on average in space, which poses no threat to spaceships traveling at low speeds. But those same lone atoms would transform into deadly galactic space mines for a spaceship that runs into them at near-light speed, according to calculations based on Einstein's special theory of relativity.''

praying wont do it. Scientist don´t believe in God :p

does anyone have any idea how long it would even take to get there at light speed?

Oh...god....

considering its 20 lightyears away id say...20 years.

OT: this is really interesting. if it is indeed habitable that is even cooler....now we just need light speed times x amount so we can get there in only a few hours . though i think we should try to find a closer planet for such things as colonization and research. we just gotta make sure there are no alien indians there first.

Not really.

The few times "people made light go faster" what happened in reality was that the light created a reaction in the molecules infront of it, creating light infront of it, while the light behind it was destroyed.

It was like say.... a teleporter on Star Trek.

The beam that arrived wasn't the same as the beam that took off.

we are not even close to getting to light speed any time soon. and it would take that long to get there at even the fastest speed possible.

Imagine if an astronaut is 30 years old when he leaves, he would get there by age 50 and he would be 70 when he gets back. 40 years without seeing his family or friends. and that is without thinking about the food, but maybe they could possibly freeze untill they get there. Who knows? but it would still be very difficult to achieve

I think the only possible way to get there would be to use a wormhole. then we´d get there in no time. think about how awesome that´d be :)

He'd be 30 when he gets back.

Wait, time slows down as you approach the speed of light?

Does someone have a wiki or article I can read on this? That's fascinating! You could essentially time-travel into the future! It'd be a one-way trip though.
