To explain what I do like:

1) Extremely competitive games
2) Casual games

If I had to make two categories, that would be it.

Uh...why no one has mentioned Calling All Cars is beyond me. It's the definition of those 2 preferences towards games.

It's also the best game you can play with multiple people in person for the PS3. It's also online, of course.

Edit:  I'm glad you like MGS because it goes to show how great those games are.  The story is the best part to me, so for you to seemingly hate stories in videogames and still like that game shows a lot.  Still, why are you so against stories in games?  Ghostbusters 3 will be a videogame, and there have been so many great stories told through videogames...

If you add me on PSN it's better then getting any game.

Seriously.

I've basically never seen a story I liked in games, and I think it's an awful medium for storytelling. That's just my opinion, obviously, and I could expand, but I'd prefer not to in this particular thread :p

And thanks for the Calling All Cars tip! I will definitely pick that up, actually.

@BOD

KH is not an RPG style game. You only play as sora. Even though it is called an RPG.

Its like a platformer. Trust me get kingdom hearts for $19.99 you will enjoy it.

I use to like RPG's quite a bit... loved Final Fantasy and I also happen to love old school Disney stuff.  So why is it that I couldn't stand Kingdom Hearts?  I think Bod would fall in the same boat as me on it... it's really not the type of game for us.  I own Kingdom Hearts 1, so I do know what I'm talking about...  it's gotta have one of the worst openings of a Squaresoft game ever... ugh...  It felt like it wanted to be a Chrono Trigger sequel that had Disney characters stuffed into it.  That camera was just awful too...  There are way too many old school SNES RPG's that put the new stuff to shame still.  FF4 and FF6 to name a few... ;)

Bod's list is pretty close to what I would have bought for the PS3 if I had it.  I bet Bod's Wii game list is pretty similar to mine.

I now have my refurbished PS3 to play with, but I have no games. Any suggestions for games?

Please keep in mind my distinct tastes; I really strongly dislike Heavenly Sword style, cinematic games. I do like multiplayer games and casual fair. The things on my "to be considered" list at the moment are Super Star Dust HD, Rock Band, Everyday Shooter, Shadow of the Colossus, and Virtua Fighter 5.

Given those tastes, can anyone think of something to add on?

Track down a copy of Klonoa 2 for the PS2, also get ICO if you can find it.  The first Jak and Daxter was awesome, just avoid the other 2 in the series.

Was it full of scratches? Man, I'm serious, the Wii, PS3, and even the 360, scratch more easily, than any other console on the planet... Except for maybe the Atari 5200... Not including the portables... But man!

Add these to the lists:

Call of Duty 4 and Resistance both have EXCELLENT multiplayer. With R:FOM's 40 player online, you get a awesome experience.

Virtua Fighter 5 is an great if your a fan of the series.

Eye of Judgment if you have ever liked Trading Card Games. Also if you get it, pick Operation Creature Feature for $5. Also big win on PixelJunk Monsters! I love tower defense games, plus it has co-op!

Ratchet is a single player game, but it is lots of fun. It definetely deserves a rental along with Uncharted. I have Rock Band and would to play with you online. It's a real blast.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

Add another vote for Warhawk. The retail includes a Jabra BT125 bluetooth headset, so that's a $40 value right there -- like getting the game for $20. If you're into PC/multiplayer competitive games, I'd start saving the coin for a nice bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo, since Unreal Tournament III on the PS3 will support it.

I picked up the Logitech Media Board Pro. I'm pretty happy with it in some areas, somewhat disappointed in others ... mapped controller buttons is nice, though. Personally, I'm just pumped about keyboard+mouse support for FPS on the PS3. I hope Resistance gets a patch down the line.

Oh, and even if you don't think you'd like so-and-so genre or what not, I think you owe it to yourself to at least download the Uncharted demo. I didn't think it would be my cup of tea either, in fact I downloaded it fully expecting to hate it (the whole 3rd person, sandbox shooter style). Turns out it doesn't suck, though. Go figure!
