Nintendo holding their September 29th press briefing at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan

Since Nintendo announced that they planned to reveal the Nintendo 3DS release date and price on the 29th of September we’ve been wondering how they are going to make the reveal. It makes sense that they’d hold a press briefing as they’ve done in previous years, but we’ve had no confirmation. Until now. It seems IGN have the inside goss and, at the end of a recent article, they write:
Nintendo will be announcing its 3DS launch strategy on the 29th during a press conference at the Makuhari Messe (the same venue as the Tokyo Game Show, which Nintendo does not attend) in Chiba, Japan.
So I guess that confirms it. Expect a press briefing at the end of this month. It’s not a massive revelation, but the confirmation is reassuring. This isn’t just going to be a small announcement sent out via a press release. Nintendo is putting on a show.
Update: I emailed Nintendo to ask for their thoughts on this and got a refreshingly honest response:
To be frank, you know as much as we do about the announcements. Ours is a very secretive business and we never give away information until we are absolutely ready. Additionally, unless you’re living in Japan, or a member of the media, I’m not entirely sure why the time of the briefing is ultimately important. I’m sure sites like IGN and others will be reporting real time as they do from events like E3 and Tokyo Game Show.
At least we now know that even Nintendo doesn’t know what Nintendo plans to do.
