Forums - Nintendo - *Wii upgrade in 2010*?

We will never see a console called Wii 2

I don't think Nintendo has the resources to pull that off this year.. And even if they did, it would be a bad move because it would be cutting off the Wii's life during the holiday season, a time where Nintendo hardware usually excels, and at a time when its library is starting to strengthen again.

Holidays 2011. The loss of steam in Japan is going to push them up, even though they could probably hold out until 2012 if it weren't for Japan.

Dragon Quest X (where in the hell was that at TGS anyway?) will give the Wii a slambang finish in the region, but otherwise they couldn't last until 2012

exactly my thoughts. they should probably release it by the end of 2011. 2012 would be too late. they would loose all the momentum the wii has had and people would start moving to other consoles. probably sad but true. casuals are not faithful (I think)

I'm sorry fellas, but you're off.

You both act s though Nintendo has absolutely no means of conitnuing sales.  Price cuts, colors, bundles, software, marketing, Vitality Sensor, etc...

You guys want a 2011 launch with what software?  You think Nintendo is going to hit up developers and publishers with new software at the same time as early 3DS software is going?   Would be a very poor decision to push their next home console so close to the 3DS because ti would stretch development budgets and resources far too thin...and they are already ecxeedingly thin as they are.

I agree - Nintendo has plenty of options available to them to push sales for the next year and a half or so.

Bah!

I'd also throw in the possibility of a redesigned console. There is no need to make the Wii slimmer but redesigning the console, adding more internal memory and presenting a Wiimote with motion plus integrated (and Wii Sports/ Wii Sports Resort on one disc onstead of two for instance) would not only excite customers but it would even reduce Nintendo's production cost for the hardware itself. Combine that with the release of a new Mario Bros and there won't be any need to release a new console till 2012 at least.

I've been wondering why Nintendo refused to release a "Wii Slim" for a while now. But they could do it after the 3DS launch period in 2011.

Agreed.

It'll be called Super Wii or Wii Advanced.

Man, I'm glad Viper1 beat me to it because I was about to type up a storm.  Next year, we all might be lucky to even hear ANYTHING about Wii's successor from Nintendo.  The next year will solely belong to the 3DS hands down.

I believe the world will have info (specs, looks, launch games, features, etc.) about Wii's successor during E3 2012 and will launch that following holiday season.  Kinda similiar to how the Wii launched back in 2006.  And if the successor would launch in 2012 and the Wii is still selling at a pace suitable to Nintendo's standards, then Nintendo can and probably should sell both together, just like Sony is still selling the PS2 and PS3 at the same time.

Nintendo should release the 3DS during the holiday season through March 2011.

During that same period and forward, Nintendo should focus on the Wii's momentum, games, sales, (basically what Viper1 said) etc. just like they're doing now.  E3 2011 should be focused on the Wii and 3DS.

In 2012, the Wii MIGHT start to lose steam and during E3 2012 Nintendo might give us some info on the successor of the Wii following a worldwide launch during the holidays IF the Wii starts to weaken around that time.

The truth is we don't know what the heck Nintendo's gonna do, but the only thing we can do now is speculate.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

I never said that it would be called "Wii 2"

Also I never said a Wii Successor and even if it sounded like it I apologize because I meant it like in the thread title a Wii upgrade or redesign. I wouldn't want a new console from Nintendo yet and I don't think it needs a new one either but all I said was what about a possible Wii upgrade or redesign in 2010.

That Nintendo France thing was fake.

We won't see a new Nintendo home console until 2012 at the earliest.

That settles it. /thread

Nintendo already made a new console and it's out in Japan and there's a huge worldwide coverup!
