Today I talked my girlfriend into purchasing the Sports Champions Bundle, even though I own a PSEye, and I also purchased a 2nd PS Move controller. We did so because K-Mart had an in store deal that ended up costing me $150 but I received $35 towards PS3 related goods in return, to most likely be used for Start The Party. So it ends up being around $110 for 2x PSMove, 1x PSEye and Sports Champions. A good deal if I say so myself.
I brought it home and booted up the PSMove demo disc and I must admit that I was disappointed that each demo needed to be installed, but I can look past that seeing as how these are soon to be PSN demos, but it would have been nice to have them as simple boot and play.
We played Sports Champions and while the immediate response by me was "This is just like the Wii", I quickly decided differently once my opponent had his turn at throwing the Frisbee. He decided to throw it Submarine style, like how a baseball player starts low and raises his arm up. This motion is done much different then your normal frisbee throw since you are throwing from your throwing hand side and not the opposite. I quickly mimicked it and am surprised that I can throw from any angle I choose, it doesn't matter, but the way the frisbee responds varies from throwing style and position, which is very realistic. I was impressed.
I didn't delve much deeper however because I had to go get some beers to drink, but when I returned I heard my girlfriend laughing as I opened the door. She was playing "Start The Party".
First thing I said was "You're playing Start The Party aren't you?". Her response was "We are buying this with your $35 in PS3 coupons from K-mart, so that is why I mentioned it in the OP. It is alright, probably a ton of fun while drunk (which is what I had mentioned to her), but she absolutely loves it, so once September 26 hits I will be picking it up for her, even though I was going to use it for Lord of Shadows.
It makes her happy though and Sept. 26th is one day after her birthday.
She was bored to tears with EyePet, but my 15 month old daughter Molly LOVED it. She danced to the music and laughed as I made the EyePet fly around in my horribly made paper plane. This will be my next GameFly rental. I do not mind playing it for the trophies if it will make her happy. That alone is worth it for me.
As of right now we are getting ready to play TV Superstars so I do not have much more to add, but I will once we actually start up the retail Sports Champions, but that post will come later.
I am impressed and my girlfriend says she already enjoys it a ton and although this may cause some problems, hopefully not though, she says she likes it more than the Wii since as far as me and her know, there are no games on the Wii similar to Start The Party.
That game alone just sold her and made here feel no so bad about being the one who actually paid the $100 for the bundle.
All in all it was a good purchase so far and I look forward to what comes in the future as well as Archery and Gladiator Battles with 2x motion controllers. Hopefully I post impressions on those later tonight.
