Decent opening but largely very MEH.

But it does seem Move will sell enough hardware to receive development support from third parties which is great for Move owners.  I think as a whole Move will be successful but do very little in terms of challenging the Wii solely because of PS3's motion control.

I disagree..

my prediction stands as it is

name me ONE single reason why the Move would cause PS3 to outsell the Wii.  I'm not saying PS3 can't start outselling WIi but if it does it will be for reasons other than Move.

Why would an average consumer pay 200 more dollars to play motion controls on the PS3?  Even if they're more responsive?  Most mainstream consumers don't care and the Wii's success isn't just because of motion control its because Nintendo perfected how to target that demographic with software and advertising as well.

I think Move will be a great success BUT really does nothing in terms of taking sales away from the Wii.

because it's one reason not to get a wii, and one more reason to get a ps3 instead

think about it.. what's the consumer ganna pick this holiday season?

The machine that..

Does Blu ray

Has the biggest games of the holiday season (GT5, LBP2, COD BLACK OPS, ASSASSINS CREED BH, MOTION GAMES)

Does 3D (considering 3D TV is likely going to be a huge seller this holiday season, the PS3 will be one of the cheapest 3D BLU RAY MOVIE players, and is the only machine out there that will be able to play STEREOTIPIC 3D and have 3D games out already)

Does everything..?

really it's the best bang for your buck.. even if you look at the 320GB MOVE BUNDLE.. it's really the best option for any consumer looking for a gaming machine..

now will they know that? That's up to sony, but the "IT ONLY DOES EVERYTHING" adverts, are surely going to help

I'm pretty sure that people will choose the Wii over the PS3 regardless of Sonys advertising.

I'm sure the casuals will pick the gamecube over the ps2 regardless of sonys advertising

Control scheme will do very little to lure the "casuals" if the games are largely the same. Other than Sports Champions and Eye Pet, what games can you see grandma or 5 year old Timmy playing on the PS3? Until Sony can get these gamers, they will not achieve Wii level success.

Sony's biggest mistake is that they seem to think motion controls are the root of the Wii's success, when it's really the games. The PS3 may play Blu Rays, or even fix you breakfast, but if it lacks games that the average consumer would want to play, a motion wand is going to do little to change that.

Disappointing sales. It seems you guys are sugar-coating this with "it's day one sales" and "it will have legs". But still, 140,000k is very low for something that had so much hype behind it.

Its not, it is only day 1 for a hardware product.

Remember this isn't a software product

Rome wasn't built in 1 day!

it came out SEP 17TH in NA, so these are technically day one sales for NA

The data is through Sep 18th.... seems like 2 days to me.

Besides, it is still week 1 sales, as a week is defined from Sunday to Saturday (in NA), people just need to expect a (for typical software curves) a smaller drop in week 2 than a game that started selling on Tuesday rather than Friday. Obviously since this is a peripheral it won't follow typical software sales curves.

Anyways, meh sales. Just looking at NA, if the sales aren't sustained at the 50k/week sales or increase in NA it'll probably be a flop. 50k over 14 weeks is only 700k "systems" in NA which is really crappy if you are going to try selling a game compared to the platforms that are already available. To compare it to the closest thing you can compare it to, the WM sold at least 5.2m units in NA to individual owners within 2009 and it still doesn't have decent support within Wii games.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit
11/03/09 Desposit: Mod Bribery (RolStoppable)  vg$ 500.00
06/03/09 Purchase: Moderator Privilege  vg$ -50,000.00

Nordlead Jr. Photo/Video Gallery!!! (Video Added 4/19/10)

But...not everyone even has it in stock yet...which some don't seem to be noticing...

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

leo, you've been sayin' that since 2006 and where are we now?

This could be taken one of two ways.

On their own, the sales are clearly disappointing.  This was meant to be a virtual relaunch of the console, a genuine Wii competitor.  Certainly, Microsoft are treating their motion offering as such.

On the other hand, the truly stellar Wii sales have always occured around Christmas time, and you'd think that is the period in which most of the Move's target audience would do their shopping.

I think it would be best if we withheld judgement for a few months.

As far as software support goes, noone that wasn't on board is going to hop on board after this week's sales, but hopefully not many would jump ship either, given what I said about holiday sales.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Not really that high and not really that low. Whats important now is whether they are sustained.

Tease.

@ starcraft

Sony have said that they expect Move to be a slow burner, and be carried by word of mouth, rather than start out with sky high sales.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-26-sonys-ray-maguire-interview?page=3

"Am I expecting a massive day one? Not particularly. We didn't with EyeToy, either. It went on to be massively successful. As people saw the value when they tried it they told their friends. Their friends bought it. They told their friends. Word of mouth grew the marketplace. That's what I expect from Move as well."

Umm...hype?! Weak advertising. Weak launch software...and you're mentioning hype? Honestly, I don't know what to say.

OT: Not impressive and not disappointing. Can it sustain such sales? That is the question, and it can once some bigger titles/more ambitious projects come into play.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

impressive first week sales, id also expect it to have legs, i many of my friends are going to buy it in 2011, when socom/infamous 2/and kz3 get move support.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good
