Er, Motion Plus launched like a month before WSR iirc.  Except in Japan.

WSR is still the greatest killer app any peripheral like that can have, Move doesn't have anything that can make a straight forward comparison fair imo.

And again, Motion Plus didn't have WSR when it launched... it had EA and Sega games.  So what's the problem?

Everyone knew WSR was coming, it's still a killer app. It's the game Nintendo had used to showcase the WMP with too.

But Sports Champions is practically the same thing, just less polished and with an uglier artstyle.  Comparing launch lineups, I'd say Move might actually have the edge overall.

And WSR came with a MP unit.  Why would people even buy Motion Plus ahead of time then?

Sports Champions is a new IP, WSR is the sequel to the best selling game of all time, not exactly "the same thing". I don't know how it all comes together, but I refuse to believe that it was carried entirely by two tennis titles for a month until WSR came out.

Two tennis games and a golf game.  I think a hockey game came out before WSR too.

And again, WSR doesn't even factor when MP launched, no one could buy it and if they were planning to buy it ever, they didn't need to buy MP at launch since it was known to be bundled with all copies of WSR.  Sure, people buy platforms based on the promise of future releases (hell, that's basically how PS3 sold itself year 1), but Move has attractive games in the pipe too (LBP2, KZ3, SOCOM4, etc).  And honestly, I've no clue how MP started out sales wise, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Move actually did more...

Regardless, I still don't think a straight up comparison is fair, because the circumstances are quite different.

I'm suprised by the sales. Actually, why are people buying one now?

I personally surely will buy one but I'm waiting for the right game. I know Ninokuni will use it, but perhaps we'll see a great game before.

I think people need to stop getting insulted when people say, "SONY has copied this"

IMO SONY are very good at refinement

they copy and improve, tune and make products that I like more in the end (except PSP).....so I don't see how its bad.

Disappointing sales. It seems you guys are sugar-coating this with "it's day one sales" and "it will have legs". But still, 140,000k is very low for something that had so much hype behind it.

Umm...hype?! Weak advertising. Weak launch software...and you're mentioning hype? Honestly, I don't know what to say.

OT: Not impressive and not disappointing. Can it sustain such sales? That is the question, and it can once some bigger titles/more ambitious projects come into play.

Just more sugercoating. It had a decent advertising campaign and certainly had a lot of hype behind it.They even had midnight openings at gamestop. Here's a picture from one of those events:

Hilarious! This is for something that was suppose to be like a new hardware cycle.

Let's get real here. The low sales are not due to "day one sales" or "bad marketing campaigns", it's due to the fact that nobody wants the Move. They already have a Wii and they are not interested in paying 300 dollars just so they can have Wii Sports Resort with HD graphics.

Of course nobody wants the Move. For a starter, nobody's heard of the Move, and on top of that, it has two-half decent games and nothing which would really warrant a purchase for the majority of people. For now.

It had plenty of television ads, pre-orders have been pushed for months now, and they even had midnight openings...

What else could they have done? Go door to door?

Release it four years ago at half the price with games from Insomniac, Naughty Dog and Santa Monica.

That's pretty much the only way Move was ever going to get a huge launch week.

It's true.  PlayStation was a better follow up to SFC/SNES than N64 was, and the market let them know that.

It's an analog and a D-Pad on a stick. Of course it flopped

That's not really fair. It's only because Sony was such a massive company, and the PSOne's sales justified massive third party support. The PSOne wasn't a copy of the SNES at all, which is ironic, because it was supposed to be an addon to the SNES.

Depends N64 brought analog stick and rumble pack.

but then SONY made a dual analog controller and added rumble INto their controllers

again Nintendo innovated and IMO SONY refined it and made a better product of it in the end. Dual analog was amazing and integrating rumble into a controller was too

Is this bundles only? or seperate moves?

Not a great start, but it will definitely have legs. I was expecting much much much higher.
