If I remember correctly Mystic Quest Legend was a Final Fantasy spin off that attempted to bring RPGs to mainstream popularity in the West, and failed.  Wasn't it simplified to hell and not received too well?  At least I think that's the game I thinking of.

Anyway, I thought some of you would like to know

PS:  I really hope the Soul Blazer trilogy are the next Square and/or Enix games to get the VC treatment, or Seiken Densetsu 3 for the Hanobi festival

Yes that is the title you're talking about in America it was just Mystic Quest in Europe its called Mystic Quest Legend.

Honestly being a kid playing it while growing up, I didn't mind the battle system it wasn't panned for the game play, it was panned cause the story was pretty rough and music was crap.  It actually had some aspects that could have taken off if it was a better game it was one of the few titles at the time that tried to get rid of random battles, but even that wasn't as fleshed out as it should have been.

For 8 dollars?  Nah not worth it when the NES Final Fantasy titles are 5 dollars and much better games.

Is this the same game as Mystic Quest on the Game Boy? Boy, I loved that game...

That's actually apart of the Mana series, Sword of Mana is the remake of that title if you want it.  Personally I loved that remake as well but I hear most fans of the original hated it (I missed out on the original)

Very appropriate that this comes on the heels of Inafune causing weeaboo butthurt. It's a good reminder that Westernizing Japanese games worked before, and it will work again.

Also, Mystic Quest had awesome music!

Meh.  Where the hell are SoulBlazer, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma?   More Enix, less Square plz...

Haha, I knew you'd respond immediately, you're so awesome

Yeah, the original was exceptional, I even liked it more than Link's Awekening and Gargoyle's Quest (another gem). Do play it if you get the chance. Shows some magic that is long gone from modern gaming unfortunately...

not sure if this is it but i got a final fantasy mystic quest game on my snes and boy does it suck

this game made me go WTF when i had a Final Fantasy Marathon, its very strange and bland for its name sake.

Oh my gosh Ultra-epic music FTW:

I wanna this game.

Above: still the best game of the year.
