Forums - Gaming - Capcom's Inafune is Rubbish

He rules. You're just jealous that you don't get to hang out with Frank West and Mega Man.

And of course Ryu and Ken.

Eh, Capcom haven't been that good ever since they closed Clover and Mikami and Kamiya left, so it's kinda funny they'd make comments like this.  But it is basically only Inafune left, so I guess he now feels he can speak for the company.

Man, just look at last gen.  Devil May Cry 1/3, Resident Evil 4, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, God Hand.  Every unique, interesting, and good title from Capcom last gen involved either Mikami, Kamiya, or both, usually with one as director.

This gen?  We've seen wonderful titles like Lost Planet 2, Resident Evil 5, and a Devil May Cry farmed out to British developers.  At least Street Fighter IV was good, and the guys that work on Monster Hunter seem to have some really good ideas, but that's a far cry from what we saw from Capcom last generation.

Resident Evil 4 > Resident Evil 5 probably best highlights Capcom's fall from grace.  Last gen they were on the cutting edge of Japanese developers, while this gen they make some ok games that don't raise the bar for the franchise at all.

Capcom has been awesome this gen. Resident Evil 5 is one of my favorite games so far of this generation. I think he's merely talking about the HD consoles.

But doesn't that hold true for pretty much all Japanese companies? And if everyone got worse, then Capcom is still cutting edge.

Not really.  Sega did a great job in inking a deal with Platinum Games, gaining the talent of Mikami/Kamiya on top of their own titles like Valkyria Chronicles.  I'd argue they're the top third party publisher in Japan at the moment, ignoring the travesty that is Sonic.  Square is also doing quite well in the handheld space, so they deserve respect for that.  And in terms of sales, they're obviously still top dog.  Then there's Namco and Konami.  Namco isn't doing a damn thing this gen and Konami has nothing of interest outside of Kojima Productions, so I guess Capcom still tops them, thanks to Monster Hunter alone.

Then there's Nintendo and SCEJ.  I'd say SCEJ tops all Japanese publishers save Nintendo, while Nintendo tops everyone, Japanese or not.

Capcom's struggling around the middle at this point, when last gen they were probably second only to Nintendo.

they gave me dead rising and soon dead rising 2 so they are gold in my book

GO CAPCOM!! XD

Love their games :P

It is pretty amazing how often Nintendo is completely ignored. If only someone could ask one of these people what they're thinking...

Anyway, where's the quote from? A link to the source would be nice.

The only Japanese companies clearly doing better this gen than last imo, are Nintendo and Level-5.  Atlus is borderline.  I'd say Taito too, if they weren't just a subsidiary these days.

Basically everyone else (Capcom, Konami, Namco Bandai, Square Enix, SCEI, NIS, SNK, etc) are doing worse overall, dramatically so in some cases.

Nevermind entire gens, I'd say even launch alinged, only Nintendo and Level-5 are unquestionably doing better this gen.

Capcom was still pretty amazing 5 years in last gen.  DMC, Dragon Quarter, Gotcha Force, RECV, MVC2, Powerstone 1-2, Project Justice, CVS1-2, Viewtiful Joe, PN03, Onimusha 1-2, Cannonspike, JoJo, GigaWing 1-2, Mars Matrix, Maximo 1-2, Steel Battalion, REmake, RE0, 3rd Strike, MMNT, MMBN1-3, MMZero 1-2, Gundam Vs... so much goodness.

This is nothing new, it's an ongoing thing since several years. The gaming industry as a whole doesn't see Nintendo as a part of them. It makes sense though, because Nintendo operates quite differently.

ofcourse they are quite different, the video game industry decided they like red ink in their financial reports and nintendo likes black ink, nintendo  gave red ink a try last quarter, but I bet they didn't like it and they will go back this quarter

nobody likes a spoiled sport  that doesn't follow the crowd
