Maybe DK will boost WIi HW by only 50% of NSMBWii if you get me,  let's say NSMBWii boosted 5M wii, DKCR will do 2.5M.

Are you saying without NSMB Wii, last xmas the Wii would have sold around 3 million, less than PS3 and 360?

Yeah ... see how stupid it sounds now eh?

He, are you always that harsh with people?

Meh, this price cut vs NSMB debate is endless. The data we have is sorta inconclusive (in everywhere but Japan, where it's undeniable NSMB had a bigger impact), so neither side is going to back down, it's useless.

I will say I'm on the NSMB side of the fence, though, so I'm with Demotruk, hoping the Wii doesn't get a price cut, but still manages numbers close to 2009 on the account of (what is hopefully) strong software.

Uh, go Donkey Kong!

Let the monkey kick some butt in November! I officialy end this thread!!! If someone posts after this, he/she will be no more. Word of fanboy!

Above: still the best game of the year.

random number I picked, maybe NSMBWii  did 2M, 5M was just a hazard guess without any thought.

price cut, nsmb and holidays was the most powerful combo nintendo can play and it destroyed everything in its sight

power up tri combo-Kaboom,nothing left standing

pricecut, dkcr and holidays is probably the second most powerful combo they can play, they should play it,but i don't think they will

they will still sell bucket loads this holidays though

Inconclusive? In the US, sales of the Wii are the highest they ever where in one month and the most a console has ever done. Not to mention that the price cut was two months before and Wii sales didn't improve until the last week of November when NSMBWii was released.

There is no argument. The events speak for themselves and anyone with any understanding of logic can put 2 and 2 together and see Mario was the result, esspecially when we consider how much the games helped in the past (Super Mario Bros sold the NES).

People are trying to cling to either that price cuts matter or that Mario is not importaint.

well

the world wide hardware gap between the PS3 and Xbox360 is back at 5.5 million again, about the same as when the PS3 first released, one year after the 360 released

but then again, at one point the gap was almost 8 million, so the PS3 slim did it's job.

we'll see what happens this Christmas season.

Oh my god.. Will someone please pull up the numbers of Wii post-price cut and post NSMB Wii? I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm too lazy to pull this stuff up myself, but I guarentee you guys that Wii sales did not rise much immediately following the price cut. Only AFTER NSMB Wii did sales significantly go up. It's not like this stuff is debatable, it's on record.

The game was so popular that it led to mass shortages of a console that was already 3 years old and a record setting 4.3 million sold in December, following a steep Wii decline just prior. I guarentee you a $50 price cut did little to cause this, dude.

Of course DKC will move hardware, this is common knowledge. The real question is how much. It will certainly be Wii's most significant title of the year in terms of pushing consoles, but obviously won't make the impact that NSMB did, but then again nothing will. I find it funny that you actually think this game will not move hardware. Either you do not know much about your gaming history, or are in great denial.

Again peole, SOFTWARE is what moves hardware. Price cuts may do a little short term, but what lifts console sales and keeps momentum is the SOFTWARE.

You asked for it you got it.

Week before price cut: 148,626
Week of price cut: 333,425

September 2009 Avg week: 159,000
October 2009 Avg week: 371,000

September 2008 Avg week: 293,000
October 2008 Avg week: 376,000

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

MGS4 is only a few weeks from 5 million. Great stuff, first PS3 5 million exclusive if I'm not mistaken. It should make it there before GT5 release, but even if it doesn't it should beat GT5 to 5 million.

Uncharted 2 still tricking along after almost 1 year. >4 million LTD is pretty much certain I think. They should come out with a GOTY version with a bunch of online maps and some other added goodies thrown in.

ME2 has hit 2 million. Solid result. Looks like it will outsell ME1 on Xbox alone, and then PS3 will push at least 500K I think, 1 million would be great but pretty wishful thinking. It's on my buy list for PS3 for sure.

GoW III rolling towards 3 million. Will certainly beat GoW II, not sure if it'll make it to GoW though. (Of course with GoW collection I & II are out of reach of GoW III, but that's cheating a bit).

Alan Wake is mere weeks from 750K, which I think given it's less than amazing start is a pretty good outcome. It really benefitted from the 360s launch, much more so than a lot of other games that have a much higher LTD.

LIES! You are going to play it on the PC, I have forseen it. You are going to have a new PC by the end of the year and on that PC is going to be Mass Effect 1 and 2. You will purchase these for less than $30 U.S. and that and other savings will justfy the uberness of your custom built PC.

On that PC will also be Civilization 5 because I order it.

Do not deny your birthright. I am your father. PC gaming is what we do.

There are some games I will only play on PC, there are others I'll only play on console. ME always seemed like a console game to me.
