I don't get why everybody raves about Reach and GT5 pushing HD consoles then act like somehow Wii is impervious to hardware movers..

Because we are talking them bumping the console a couple of hundred thousand. That isnt enough to change the trajectory.  As someone else said in a couple of weeks the Halo Reach bump will be basically over.

A good quality lineup with additions throughout the year maintains sales.  It also gets back to last year.  Wii sales jumped when the price dropped, but the Nintendo fans say it was because of NSMBWii which came nearly 2 months later.  If Nintendo doesnt drop the price this year you will see.  And what you will see will be pretty standard climb to holiday levels in November and December.

NSMB Wii has sold 15 million, and is still hovering around the top 10 charts nearly a year later. That is what I call the ULTIMATE hardware mover. To claim that somehow a $50 price cut had more of an effect on the hardware than the most popular franchise of all time is pretty laughable. In essence, if NSMB Wii is NOT a hardware mover, then no game is.

Remember in Japan Wii sales barely rose when it had its price cut. Only after NSMB Wii did sales really take off. The game single handedly sold out Wiis nearly worldwide after the console was recently in pretty steep decline.

Duh, the game released december in Japan. And in late november elsewhere. The game did not boost the hw as much as the pricecut and the holiday season did. But you can keep on hoping that a donkey kong game will boost HW.

Unless the game releases on late  november once again, then you can keep claiming that it actually did boost HW. But hey, I think you said it yourself. Wii gets more holiday boost than other consoles because of the parent who want to buy the kid friendliest console as a present.

yep I checked the charts again and when the Wii price cut hit the sales suddenly went up 124% and even improves EVERY week in October. 300k - 400k every week and the holiday season baaaarely started. Then the holidays really started and the Wii picked up even more and that had absolutely nothing to do with NSMB Wii.

Then Mario kicks in Europe and America and bumps the hardware up another 34%. PS3 and 360 dropped, but hadn't Modern Warfare 2 been released 1 week earlier the sales of the HD consoles would have gathered plus 10% with ease.

During December it could have pushed some hardware, yes but overall hardly more than 1 million units.

Which is of course very good, but not even close what the price cut did to improve the sales.

I would not say absolutely nothing, of course the game sold some hw. But not the way some people say...

actually I said NSMB Wii shifted around 1 million units which would be 10% of all Wii hardware sales from the beginning of the price cut (Very end of September) until new year.

That's already a lot.

MGS4 is only a few weeks from 5 million. Great stuff, first PS3 5 million exclusive if I'm not mistaken. It should make it there before GT5 release, but even if it doesn't it should beat GT5 to 5 million.

Uncharted 2 still tricking along after almost 1 year. >4 million LTD is pretty much certain I think. They should come out with a GOTY version with a bunch of online maps and some other added goodies thrown in.

ME2 has hit 2 million. Solid result. Looks like it will outsell ME1 on Xbox alone, and then PS3 will push at least 500K I think, 1 million would be great but pretty wishful thinking. It's on my buy list for PS3 for sure.

GoW III rolling towards 3 million. Will certainly beat GoW II, not sure if it'll make it to GoW though. (Of course with GoW collection I & II are out of reach of GoW III, but that's cheating a bit).

Alan Wake is mere weeks from 750K, which I think given it's less than amazing start is a pretty good outcome. It really benefitted from the 360s launch, much more so than a lot of other games that have a much higher LTD.

LIES! You are going to play it on the PC, I have forseen it. You are going to have a new PC by the end of the year and on that PC is going to be Mass Effect 1 and 2. You will purchase these for less than $30 U.S. and that and other savings will justfy the uberness of your custom built PC.

On that PC will also be Civilization 5 because I order it.

Do not deny your birthright. I am your father. PC gaming is what we do.

yes dad , please send cheque for uber pc spent all my money buying steam games in anticipation of  owning all that uberness, not on beer repeat not on beer .

your loving son

You are not my son. I only have the one son and he is Binary_Solo and he is called Solo because he is named after Han Solo and the fact that he is an only child.

Now begone you foul knave.

If they ship enough and they have the supply then I say 85 Million...82 Million is a given.

I don't think Wii sells depending on how much Nintendo ships.  Can Wii really sell 20M this year? I bet 17M

The Wii is at 74 Million exactly right now and so it needs to sell 11 Million to reach 85 Million

Wii can do that.

Oh my god.. Will someone please pull up the numbers of Wii post-price cut and post NSMB Wii? I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm too lazy to pull this stuff up myself, but I guarentee you guys that Wii sales did not rise much immediately following the price cut. Only AFTER NSMB Wii did sales significantly go up. It's not like this stuff is debatable, it's on record.

The game was so popular that it led to mass shortages of a console that was already 3 years old and a record setting 4.3 million sold in December, following a steep Wii decline just prior. I guarentee you a $50 price cut did little to cause this, dude.

Of course DKC will move hardware, this is common knowledge. The real question is how much. It will certainly be Wii's most significant title of the year in terms of pushing consoles, but obviously won't make the impact that NSMB did, but then again nothing will. I find it funny that you actually think this game will not move hardware. Either you do not know much about your gaming history, or are in great denial.

Again peole, SOFTWARE is what moves hardware. Price cuts may do a little short term, but what lifts console sales and keeps momentum is the SOFTWARE.

You think it's going to have a similar holiday season as last year without a price cut and NSMB? (you may think DK will be big but it'll never be NSMB big)

NSMB Wii is probably the most significant hardware mover THIS GEN (at least stand alone game). The fact that people are actually trying to claim that the game did little or nothing to Wii hardware is absolutely ludicrous to me...
