Forums - Gaming - IGN: Why you should be excited for DmC

Huge fan of the genre, and game. I 'HOPE' it turns out well, if it does it's gonna be day one

I was always a bit intrigued by the DMC series, but the demo I played for 4 didn't do it for me.

The trailer for this game is absolutely 100% SICK! I'm pretty excited to see how this pans out, and I have faith in Ninja Theory.

I say bring it on.

I survived the Apocalyps3

day one for me dudes.

day one for me dudes.

Dante was chessy yet funny while the new Dante looks very emo. Also the hair, skinny ness and the hobo clothes are terrible, gameplay looked cool from what you can take from the trailer.

I didn't so much not like Dante, I didn't like the overall feel of the game.  The rock that was in the game seems to be gone, the goth style is out the window, I can't say I like the cyborgs he's fighting that's supposed to be demons, and they just tried to make Dante "cool" but he just isn't the badass he's supposed to be.  Those are my complaints and well if they change the music I think I'd be a happy camper.

this is what I have to say: NO. There was nothing about the series that constituted a reboot; it was still financially and critically successful, Dante is an iconic beloved gaming hero, and fans wanted to see where the next entry in the series would be going with Nero and Dante. This trailer does NOTHING to convince people that what they're seeing is Devil May Cry and just raises the question of why they bothered slapping the name on to begin with. It just seems cynical and underhanded. I'm not supporting something like this

While gameplay may be good in this new DMC (can't be much more generic and repetitive than Part 4 to be honest)...the pic below says it all when it comes to design and style choices Ninja Theory has made...

Why you shouldn't: It's being developed by Ninja Theory.

If you look at the trailer, it hints that Dante will have a all-in-one weapon, something seen in Heavenly Sword. Ninja Theory touted three different fighting styles in HS, and you could change fighting style by either holding L1 or R1. This, however, added no depth/value to the battle system, thus making HS' combat shallow. I would rather have multiple, varied weapons like in DMC3. Each being different and having their own advantages/disadvantages. While it hasn't been confirmed, it more than likely that DMC will have a similar combat to that of Heavenly Sword - slow, shallow, boring, infested with QTEs.

Ninja Theory hasn't proven they can deliver a fast-paced, deep combat like in Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry/Bayonetta. Let's not forget their games have framerate problems. There is a chance they can surprise me, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Also, I don't mind a Dante redesign, but this looks awful.

Ninja Gaiden 3, please don't disappoint me, and Kamiya, bring on Bayonetta 2.

I think the main problem is, there's no reason for Capcom to outsource to begin with. This whole "westernise" approach they're taking is ridiculous, because DMC4 did great with both critics and in sales. People say the series needs to be "refreshed"... I don't particularly agree, but I can see where you're coming from. Changing everything, though? That's not refreshing a series, that's potentially killing it. Sure, it can pan out great, like with RE4 (though they didn't wreak havoc on character designs), but this will more than likely not be a case of RE4.

The design, the music, the enviroment... Everything just feels terrible to me, and I loved the previous games (well, except 2). Dante IS Devil May Cry. And what we're getting in this new game isn't Dante, not by a long shot. That might have been tolerable if any other semblence of Devil May Cry's soul was still present, but judging by the trailer we've gotten? It's not.

As for people saying it's giving us insight into Dante's backstory, we already have enough insight into it. Let me put the cards on the table, here. Devil May Cry has a story, but it's not deep and nobody plays it for the story. It's just a means to an end. It's not necessarily bad, and it does its job fine, but it is not the focal point of the game, nor should it be. We know enough about Dante to love him. Trying to create more shit for us to "care" about will likely just push us away.

And, to finish it all, like a previous poster said, I hardly have faith that Ninja Theory can pull off a DMC-game to begin with, even if all the previous points are ignored. Nothing against the guys, but they aren't on par with an internal Capcom team, and certainly not on par with Hideki Kamiya (though he was only involved with the first DMC).
