I always believed that. Screwin up on the PS3 would have cost them alot, so they had to do a 2 pricecuts with a new model in its first 3 years, even if it cost them money back then, but at least save the sony image. Good move by Sony in the end i guess!

Cool, those comparison totally doesn't work because the PS3slim launched near the end of the month, so it had weeks of shitty sales in early September as everyone waited for the Slim to come out

I'd be more interested in seeing how many NEW owners there are, I'm guessing many more of those slim 360's are upgrades which makes for misleading numbers. 

I'd guess that too, mainly due to RROD paranoia, but the software attach ratios really don't support that argument at all.  Unless 360 owners buy orders of magnitude more software overall, the ratios of repeat to new buyers on PS3 Slim and 360 S are probably within the same ballpark.

Problems with this comparison:

1) August 2009 was not the PS3 Slim's first month.

2) NPD figures do not cover the entire world.

Having said that, the 360S has had a much greater impact on hardware sales than many (including myself) had expected, so well done to Microsoft for making quite a genius business decision.

Gamasutra did actually note the first point, but it goes to show how full of crap most analysts are (not ioi and TheSource, of course <3)

And trolls will troll with or without any sort of basis. I'm pretty sure that's on the Rules of the Internet somewhere.
