Forums - Sales - Reach vs Move & GT5 vs Kinect. Console sales prediction thread.

It looks like Reach and Move are close to each other in release window, and the same with Gran Turismo 5 and Kinect.  This looks like attempts to counter sales of one another and do battle for console sales, so, I figured I would ask...

Will Reach beat Move as far as impact on consoles sales or visa-versa?  And the same for GT5 vs Kinect.  Which will have a greater impact on console sales?

And then, over all, which of these will have the greatest impact on console sales: Reach, Move, GT5 or Kinect?  Which do you think will?

This is just my opinion, but wouldn't it make sense to compare the two games, and the two motion control options?

But it's your thread, so Reach will outsell Move (first week. For LT , it's too early to tell) and GT5 will outsell Kinect (FW and LT).

Basically, the two massively anticipated games from enormous franchises will outsell a camera and a Wiimote with a coloured ball. Shocking, I know.

In the short term Reach will obviously push more hardware than Move but Move will obviously have a larger longterm impact on PS3 sales, primarily in EMEAA. As far as launch weeks are concerned I think it'll look something like this:

360: 275k-325k (Mostly comes down to how many Reach bundles they produce. I'm assuming it'll be around 100k like the MW2 bundle)

PS3: 175k-225k (around 100k in EMEAA)

For Kinect vs. GT5 week it's much harder to say. It really comes down to how well received Kinect is by the general public. And also how heavily GT5 is bundled in every region. Based on Japan sales alone I'd say at least 350k is guaranteed on GT5 week. But like I said, it's very hard to judge.

360: 250k-400k

PS3: 350k-500k

Yeah, I know it's a really wide spread. I'll be able to make a better judgment once we get closer to release. As far as longterm impact is concerned that's WAY to hard to say.

I think the question was which of them will move the most consoles.

OT:

Reach will have a bigger impact initially than move but Move will have a bigger impact overall.

Kinect vs GT5 is tougher. Kinect has a lot of marketing and seems to target new users more than Move. I have no idea what to expect from GT5. So...um...draw? Kinect will easily be the winner when all is said anddone though.

Overall I choose Kinect as having the biggest impact out of those four.

Ah, in console sales. A better question. I should really spend more time reading OPs :/

Gran Turismo 5 will likely sell the most. Yes, it's four years in, but it's still the system's first Gran Turismo, and GT is a series with millions of fans.

Kinect second. Mostly due to the enormous marketing it will get; it will look like a must-have peripheral, and many (wealthy) casual gamers may pick it up for that.

Halo Reach third. Halo 3 is already out, and Reach won't bring very many new gamers to the fold. But it will bring some.

Move last of all. It's really a control scheme which appeals to PS3 owners. It's too similar to the Wii for any casual gamer who doesn't own a current-gen console, and a core gamer who doesn't own a PS3 isn't going to buy one for Move.

I seem to remember when the Wii came out , nobody was that convinced by the Motion controls of the Wii Remote for quite a while and it got a fair bit of bashing before people came around. At pre-launch and and for at least the first 6 months after, Kinect and Move will probably be in the same situation, trying to convince people and their established install base that they work and are worth getting.

So at launch they will most likely be out-shone by their rivals top franchise.

This is what I am thinking as well, allthough depending on Kinect's reception it and GT5 could swap places.

Reach >> Move

GT5 > Kinect

GT5 > Reach

Kinect >> Move

=>  Reach/Kinect > GT5/Move

Same thoughts here, except I don't think GT5 or Kinect will push that many more consoles then Reach. I also think if Kinect gets a good reception then Kinect > GT5.
