Forums - Sony - PS2 owners not getting PS3s ***SHOCKING***

42 million - ~25 million Xbox 1 owners = 17 million people new to Xbox, Yeah that's "most" of the PS2 owners right there. A big whopping 13% of PS2s sold LTD.

Though I don't reckon PS2 install base really got above 100 million, the other 40 million are re-buys, 2 PS2 households, and out of warranty broken PS2s being replaced.

Wii took most of the former PS2 owners who've got into the current gen. I'm sure there's still a sizeable crowd who haven't yet.

I say most bought an xbox 360."

Why is Xbox total sale at only 43 million then O_O?!?

If 43million PS2 owners upgraded to the 360 then where did the 25million XBox owners go? O_o

Somebody didn't think before making this foolish thread that had no intention other than, well... nothing.

All my PS2-owning friends got the PS2 because it was affordable and had an absolute ton of games with a really diverse library, including party games, casual games, and games that won't scare girls away.

So now they all have Wiis.

Two of them have Wiis and 360s.

All my PS2 owning friends got PS3's.

If anyone here is really believing that the Wii fanbase is made up of former PS2 owners then Wii didn't expand the market as much as originally thought.

I never had a PS2, I had a gamecube, and now have a PS3

I actually chose a ps2 over a ps3.

Anyhow, most casual ps2 owners either didn't buy anything at all or bought a Wii.

Me and a couple of my friends who used to have ps2's....now have 360's, so some people have changed but I'm just speaking form what I know, I'm sure plenty bought Wii's or haven't upgraded yet...

Bear in mind that a lot of those PS2s were probably used mostly to play DVDs. The PS2 was the cheapest DVD player in common circulation for a while. Some PS2 owners got 360s instead because they just wanted their Maddens and Grand Theft Auto 4 for the lowest price possible back when the PS3 was $599. Some of them probably refused to get a system without Gran Turismo; The Gran Turismo games sold over 28 million units on the PS2 alone. JRPG fans that helped bolster the system (FFX sold less copies than only the GT and GTA games) have largely migrated to the handhelds, the new home of the JRPG, or have simply given up on the genre in favor of WRPGs like Fable and Mass Effect and MMORPGs like World of Warcraft. The often overlooked casual PS2 gamer, who played movie tie ins, Guitar Hero, and the various Sony-brand 3D platformers, has naturally gone over to the Wii. Some of them got their PS2s in 07 or 08, at which point the system was still competing with the PS3, and are unwilling to upgrade after two or three years.

How's that for a concise response?

Wait. I have a question. ALL my PS2 owning friends have purchased an average of 3 PS2 over 7 years.  Does that mean that each sale of a PS2 counts as another owner? I'm the only person I know that has only 1 PS2. I purchased mine near the end of the generation and barely play it. Sorry to bring this up. But I think closer to 100million should be checked against.

Non graphic gamers went Wii
Sony Gamers went PS3
Current trend Gamers went 360
Lot of Gamers haven't moved on

Even if we were to assume that 140 PS2 sales was a single individual. IF. it would still apply that many PS2 gamers are happy with the PS2 and don't feel the need to upgrade. Keep in mind that most console gamers could care less about who makes the console. They just care about the games they want. They are not console loyal.
