if halo 4 released 6 months after it, it would have never have reached 8 million.

point is halo isnt a game about great legs and at 6 months of sales it was about 7.5 million(im not sure), so 6 months after release it sold more then 3 million which is a lot.  prologue teaches us that their is an audience for gt5 and that the game will have legs.

GT games historically have legs...its the last franchise that I'd expect to sell 5 million first week.

I expect to see plenty of "GT5 sales are disappointing" threads from people who don't realize this.

Even Just Dance 2 did better than GT5 this week... I wonder how Dance Central pre-orders are doing.

PS3 games tend to have far less preorders than 360 games especially in NA yet over time they tend to catch up pretty well. For example take out the first 2 weeks of Modern Warfare2 and PS3 is winning. 

GT5 commercial advertising hasn't started yet, anywhere in the world.

In a couple of weeks it will be 8 weeks from the release date, and PD should start trickling down advertisements here and there before swarming TVs, Gamestops, NASCAR, magazines, and other places around the world. Then the pre-orders will pick up. Up until now, they haven't done any commercial advertising other than small conventions like E3, GC, and soon to be TGS. Once the word gets out that this is REALLY the ACTUAL release date and the advertising begins, I'd expect to see pre-orders start climbing into the tens of thousands.

Besides, GT has always been a series that sells less than 20-25% first week, unlike a HUGE majority of other franchises out there. Thats why people claim that it has such 'legs'.

If you take out the first two weeks of Modern Warfare 2 sales, you take away 5.7 and 3.7 million sales, almost half of the game sales, and still Modern Warfare for 360 will be ahead of the PS3 version. The current difference between games is 3 million, not less then 2.

However a lot of PS3 games do better then these pre-orders indicate because they either Appeal more to European or Japanese gamers (Gran Turismo 5), or because people don't know what to expect (Uncharted 2 only had 200k pre-orders before launch). As for Call of Duty, it's always been a bit more geared towards the 360 gamer (FPS branded console), and with timed exclusive map packs the 360 version gets more hype then the PS3 version (Just like Madden NFL 11 did for PS3, the PS3 sales were a lot higher this year).

I noticed no one put the Gran Turismo 5 vs PS3 CoD comparision, so I'm doing it. However I hve no clue how to make a table like that without manually typing every number in, so I just quoted this guy from last week, and added new figures.

I couldn't figure out how to cut out 360 from this post, so ignore that (although I did update it too).

BTW I am really disapointed at Halo figures this week. How did Black Ops manage to get so many pre-orders, but Halo so close to launch is only getting 200k. I mean that is a lot, but this is a Halo game. Call of Duty come every year, and they all sell well regardless of quality.

Also does anyone know why Black Ops suddenly jumped in pre-orders the last 2 weeks?

But it has. The game shops have posters in the windows. The websites have been running campaigns for sometime. They have done adverts on the special edition of the game. And i imagine in the next few weeks they will start with the GT5 PS3 bundle ads on tv.
This is GT5 were talking about, not some unknown game. It was meant to be released in 2007. Everyone knows about the game.

Sony obviously will not compete with Microsoft in terms of advertising. MS are masters at it but more importantly throw mega millions at it.

Also i thought i would point out that in UK at least the various pre-order charts don't have GT5 doing much better.
