I know I'm very late to the party, yes.

I've decided I want to play games other than Pokemon on my GBA...especially since my PS3 is dead, I have no other game console atm...

I'm looking at Metroid Fusion...is it OK if I play it even though I've never played Metroid before ?

And what are the other absolutely MUST play GBA games excluding Pokemon ?

This is the best link that I have for GBA games. It includes screenshots, a brief description of each game, and they are divided in categories by their genre.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

All Golden Sun games, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Advance, Castlevania Circle of the Moon, Megaman Zero 3,  Mario and Luigi, Zelda, Advance Wars, Yoshi's Island, Wario land, Wario Ware and some Kirby games

I enjoyed a lot Dragon Ball games, Medabots, Star Wars, Megaman Battle Netowrk and Yu-gi-oh games but objectively speaking I don't think they were good. There are some others I probably liked back then because of my age.

Also, I remember there were a lot of really good JRPG's on the GBA but I can't remember names at the moment. =/

Metroid fusion you should like it's a sequel to super metroid bar one, which metroid other m fits between them, all the Super mario advance, Zelda: minish cap, F-zero.

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

Golden Sun
Golden Sun 2
Metroid Fusion (Just keep in mind that it's like the worst Metroid game and completely butchers the freedom and exploration of the series with it's forced linear nonsense.)
Metroid Zero Mission
Sonic Advance
Max Payne
Final Fantasy 1 & 2, III, IV, V, VI were all released on the thing
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
TMNT
Gunstar Super Heroes
All three Castlevania games
Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones
I think there was a Phantasy Star collection released on that thing, too.  Might be worth it.

@ OP

You don't need to have played any other Metroid games for Fusion to make sense. Fusion was the first one I played as well.

I put another vote in for the Castlevania games especially AoS and also a nod to Riviera the promised land if you can find a copy (I doubt it)...
