Forums - Gaming - Is it just me or is the 360 low on exclusives in 2011 vs the PS3?

Why should anyone care about what games are exclusive or not? I hardly care for any PS3 exclusives aside from Infamous 2. That doesn't mean the PS3 has a weak exclusive lineup or that I should make a thread complaining about how bad the PS3 exclusives are. If I judged the PS3 on what I thought of the Sony exclusives I would judge the system very harshly indeed. Thats why 3rd party software exists, it gives people choice!

The funny thing is that even though the Xbox 360 gets fewer exclusives, I like those exclusives more frequently. Fable, Halo, Gears, Mech Warrior etc are some of my favourite games, games I actually want to own. I don't judge a game as worthy unless I actually feel compelled to own/keep it and if I think its actually fun to play through at least 3 or 4 times.

Tease.

Man the 360 crowd sure is fired up over this one.   The truth of the matter is though, PS3 owners aren't sweating bullets waiting for more games to come out or be announced.   More games will definitely be announced from here until the end of 2011 for the PS3.

The 360 owners on the other hand have to absolutely pray and hope that Microsoft has plans for games beyond Gears 3 to last them all of 2011.  Because, it doesn't matter who you are.  That list is very barren.  And while I am sure it will grow....Will it grow even remotely enough to matter?

Uncharted 3 alone would equal the 360 lineup of Gears of War 3.  Everything else is just icing on the cake.  Kill Zone 3 is arguably comparable to and at worst a small step below those two games.  Which again just further tips the scales. Twisted Metal is a huge franchise with a solid fanbase and following it may Metacritic in the 80s but it will have a hardcore following.   Resistance  has been a solid B level franchise since day one the PS3.  3 will likely continue this.  Infamous again is a franchise hovering around Uncharted / Kill Zone status....Looks to be greatly improved over the first one.   Last Guardian is to iffy to be released in my opinion but I am hopeful and FFXIV doesn't interest me since it's almost definitely timed exclusive.

Kinect and Move don't belong in this yet because quite honestly either one could completely flop and fail.  (If I were betting, I would bet Kinect but that is just a different story for a different day).  To my eyes, the Move lineup is superior anyways with more titles to boot and it appears more titles are being given legacy support for Move (See Heavy Rain) or included support with Move and Regular control options (See LBP2/Killzone 3). Something that I really haven't seen too much out of Kinect yet.  And to even further the point, there is a strong chance that a lot of third party Wii games will make their way over exclusively to Wii/PS3 because of similarity in controls.

Why's that? Are Xbox 360 owners allergic to playing anything but exclusives? And I'm sure as hell not sweating bullets waiting for games to be announced. I've got plenty of stuff coming out this year and next year that I want to play, but please, do keep generalizing.

Surely not.   I think we all can agree that the best efforts from all three consoles have been the exclusive ones however.  If I were buying a console on January 1st 2011 and looking at the upcoming library?  The 360 would be behind  Nintendo and the PS3 in terms of desired software lineups.

Your very defensive presence throughout this thread insisting that you are perfectly fine playing what will more than likely amount to mostly average third party efforts is not generalizing.  It's calling a spade a spade.

I know personally as a 360 owner,  I have higher hopes for the library other than Gears 3.....

*steps on soapbox*

Calling a spade a spade? If no one calls you out on it, it looks like there's a perception of truth to what you say, then if someone does, it leads me to being pointed out as defensive. Let's call a spade a spade after all, am I right? I'm getting tired of this site and its style of arguing that doesn't rely on facts, but instead labelling the opposition in an attempt to discredit them. Riddle me this if you will: who on January 1, 2011 is buying a new console and completely ignoring the past 5 years of games on these systems? I'm dying to hear the answer to this one.

So since you think I'm dishonest, I'll go ahead and list all the games I'm interested in next year:

1. Dragon Age II

2. Rage

3. Mortal Kombat

4. Dead Space 2

And I'll go ahead and throw the stuff releasing this year that I'm not buying until next year as well:

5. AC: Brotherhood

6. Fallout: New Vegas

7. Arcania: Gothic 4

8. Two Worlds II

But wait, I'm sorry. These are all "average" third party efforts. I'm sorry for not playing the games you want me to, your freaking lordship.

Now please, feel free to go ahead and talk about 360 owners crying sleepless nights, because they have no games to play or some such nonsense, or better yet, continue to "call a spade a spade" and label me as "defensive," but please stop acting like there are no games coming out for the 360 and that we're all begging and praying for games, and freaking stop implying that I'm lying just because you seem to think the 360 has no games coming next year that are anything above "average."

*picks up soapbox and walks away*

That said, give it up.  They just don't view things as you do.  Everything has to be a comparison, a competition.  There always has to be a winner.

But, again, I applaud your impassioned and factually accurate defense.  Its refreshing to see someone enjoy the great things they have instead of always looking around to see if someone drives a better car than them . . .

Dude, this is huge damage control and you know it. Both systems will be able to enjoy those games so that is a pointless statement. Any PS3/360 owner can make that "impassioned" argument. Whether you like it or not the PS3 will have more draw for the hardcore crowd in 2011 unless Microsoft does something quick. Exclusives not only keep a console brand more alluring, but it also makes them have a larger library period which the competition cannot touch with its own special flavor. If a console has all the games every other system has, there might as well be only one system of the two types. The 360 used to stand out because it offered more exclusives and the 3rd party multiplats than Sony. Microsoft did not plan well for their '11 year plan' because Sony has more in house developers. Now it's becoming even more apparent and if you cannot see that, well I am sorry.

Microsoft will have to introduce some new games (hopefully some new IP's) at the Tokyo Game Show or at some X event. Otherwise (some) of the hardcore gamers will walk away.

Or.... Gears of war III is the last big exclusive for the Xbox 360, because the new Xbox will arive in the fall of 2011.

yes I am serious, because GAMETRAILERS said halo reach isn't that good

(IN FACT the editor in chief, SHANE SATTERFILED... yea I know.. said he found the game behind compared to another shooter on another console)

so that made it serious... ...serious

Ah yes, and because Gametrailors said so it must be true. Seriously, if it really has all the content Bungie says it does, and if the campaign is anything like it looks, and if the multiplayer is anything like the Beta...well then the guys over at Gametrailors are idiots.

They've most likely played the proper game, you haven't, so the thing's they say have alot more credibility than us forum goers. The Halo: Reach praise so far from the general gaming media hasn't been universal, so I wouldn't call the guys at GameTrailers idiots just because they disagree with your unproven opinion. That's not cool. I also don't think Leo-J should have brought Halo" Reach up, but he didn't call the guys at GameTrailers idiots.

From what I have experianced, I do think they are idiots. Just the content alone, Forge world, the new maps, loadouts, multiplayer sorting options, gametypes, and ranking systems alone say that this will be head and shoulders above the rest.

Anyway, In LeoJ's defense, he was not the one who brought reach into the conversation.

You forgot FF Versus XIII

I predict: Final Fantasy Versus XIII  will be announced for XBox 360 at  next year's E3. 2012 multi-platform release. FFXIII on XBox 360 has been a success and will sell over 2 million sales on the 360. Japan version of FFXIII will soon be launched and it should help bring home another 400k sales. Porting a game splits the development costs and boosts sales and profits from the extra game sales. Final Fantasy XIV appearing as on the 360 has not been ruled out.

360 is doing well to compete with the PS3 despite having less than one third the amount of exclusive games as Sony and PS3. Sony has a lot of overhead costs with all its one and two party development studios.

360 remains the preferred console for the third party developers to develop multi-platform games instead of the complicated PS3.

Q4 10  for the 360: Fable 3 and Halo:Reach should be included on the exclusive games  list.

Gears of War 3, Halo: Reach, Fable 3 are released within 6 months for the 360. PS3 has more games including Gran Turismo 5 and quite a few others. 360 has some good exclusive games to keep its gamers happy.

that changed a long time ago :P

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

This thread is true, PS3's line up is ridiculously overwhelming not to mention the "timed exclusives" by MS that eventually joins the ps3 library.

ME now multi.

portal now multi.

GTA4 episodes now multi.

metro 2034 going multi.

next up SC:conviction and L4D for sure.

MS needs to build their first party badly and quit the stupid timed exclusive deals.

Red Dead Redemption, Mafia 2, and dozens of other games say otherwise.  The simple truth is that the Xbox 360 is the lead console for many third party titles and the system that usually has the best console version of a game.
