Japan doesn't make that much off a difference....a console can still win with worldwide sales even if it doesn't have Japan.

Perhaps, but I'm not sure of a console that has ever won a gen without it. Depending on a couple of factors for next gen (how Japan's market is, the Xbox 3/720 position worldwide [excluding Japan]) you could be right. It just hasn't happened yet. |
You also have to remember that places like the US and Europe are seeing incredible growth for videogames whilst it seems like Japan hasn't grown to horrible much.....This gen has already sold many more consoles then any other generation.
Edit: I haven't looked at the numbers to back up my statement but i'm fairly certain about this.

Well yes, in comparison to the Japanese consoles, it looks abysmal. But for an Xbox, it's a 100% improvement. |
even look it like that selling more than lowest selling console in the territory, and considering it took alot of effort... sounds sad.

Is the PS3's lead in Japan more significant than the 360's lead in America? Probably not.
Japan makes up a small portion of over all PS3 software sales. They also have the worst attach rates.

Well how much effort did they really put in? They paid for a few exclusives and it made a world of differece compared to last gen. I don't see anything sad about that.
I'd imagine MS is making a profit from Japan. Its not like hardware and software is cheaper there.

In fact looking at 360 sales in Others I wouldn't die of shock if PS3 even outsold it this Holiday |
I wouldn't either considering that (correct me if I'm wrong) GT usually sells better in Europe, which is a good majority of others region. I think that's really going to push the PS3 this holiday in Others.

Oh that's for sure. Between that and the Move launch (for all intents and purposes a €70 cut on the high end model) PS3 is going to do amazingly well in EMEAA this holiday. I'd even be willing to bet that PS3 will be the #1 selling home console in EMEAA in quarter 4.
