Pokemon's height of popularity was in the 2000's. Hell the pokemon game didn't even come out until very late 1998.

No the peak was during the early Pokémon seasons and also for the first two movies (all of that in the 90s). Just look at the box office for the movies and you'll basically know when the franchise was the most popular.
And btw I have never heard of the beanie babies so I guess that does not define the 90s all that well.
