That much domination in the top 10? Can someone tell me what the huge difference is other than what should be a $5-10 roster update DLC? |
yeah it even got a ps2 game into the top 10

Well if thats true, then these numbers are actually pretty damn good. Especially considering South Korea isn't included. With digital sales the game could well be over 2 million and when the Korean numbers get included eventually (I hope they will at least) then this game should be doing basically as well as everyone expects it to be doing.

ioi said Asian numbers would be well over 1.5 million week one.
So Starcraft 2 is most likely around 5 million worldwide right now.
And those retail sales are indeed very good.
Starcraft II has probably sold five million in one Korean village alone by now.

Millions in software, absolutely. As for hardware, I expect a fairly significant jump: 150,000 - 200,000 even (it's bundled somewhat too), but not millions. Even GT5 won't do that for the PS3. It's possible for the 360 to stay ahead of the PS3 for the rest of the year though, or until GT5 week. How it stacks up against the Wii is going to be interesting to watch. |
coming from someone who works in gaming retail the boost from Halo Reach is going to be huge. Regardless of what anyone else says I along with others who work at Gamestops across the country who I've talked to are seeing HUGE Halo Reach console pre-order numbers.
It won't move millions of units of hardware but it will move over 200,000 I can promise you.

It bothers you that people like football and buy football games? Do you make this much sense about other sports games as well? |
Notice I said MADDEN games, I did not say football games. For one, I don't really appreciate how EA Sports has a monopoly on the NFL games with their Madden titles . I got nothing against football games necessarilly. I actually was a big fan of the NFL Blitz games.
And the Madden games don't seem to change much year after year, yet people keep buying them. They only seem to be "updated," while they sell them as entirely new $60 games every single year.

I can't speak for iHuGi, but there are two gross assumptions that you made that are highly suspect. 1) After the holidays, the 360 will be in 3rd place for weekly sales. There is no evidence to come to that conclusion based on what we know now. The PS3 slim boost still has not worn off, so why would the 360 redesign wear off so quickly? To come to that conclusion gives evidence that you may have a bias. 2) You concluded that MS is writing off their core audience (incorrect, as this holiday has bigger core games from them than last holiday) and Kinect will not be a success at all and nobody will buy its games. Again, a huge bias against something that you are not interested in or impressed by. That does not mean that others aren't, as it is quite clear that its initial lineup is directed at an audience other than the core. And based on numerous impressions, that audience is highly interested. |
1) Notice I said the sales of all three consoles will be very close next year (during the slow periods at least). But ultimately I think 360 will end up back in last by a hair for a few key reasons. One, the slim effect will contine to wear off. Second, the weakness of the 360's library going into next year compared to PS3. Third, the lack of strength in Japan dragging it down compared to Wii and PS3.
2) 360 has some strong titles this holiday; Reach is the obvious one, Dead Rising 2, Fallout, etc. But most of them are also coming out for PS3. And MS has not shown they are focused on core games judging from their showing at E3. There is little coming out in 2011 for MS, at leaast from what they've announced.
For Kinect, I'm just taking an educated guess, but from what I've seen, this thing is set up to be a collosal failure. Why? Just look at the titles. I can't imagine many people seeing any standout games to spend $100 for Kinect on, let alone $100 for Kinect PLUS $300 for a new console. Remember, it is software that moves hardware. This will be true for Kinect as well, no matter how neat the motion controls are. Kinect also has certain issues in that you cannot even sit while playing, nor can you play more than 2 people at once.
Will it bump hardware? Of course it will. In fact, for a few months, it will probably MASSIVELY boost hardware. But when talking LONG TERM success, Kinect will fade out quickly, unless MS and third parties drastically strengthens its software lineup for it, and MS will be left with the burden of its own 32x. I don't quite understand why people seem to believe that a cheap Wii knockoff will be such a massive hit, when even the ACTUAL Wii console is currently struggling, and it has a much stronger library than Kinect will.

I don't think that the same people go out and buy Madden every year. I think it's new owners or people who have a new or resurgent interest in the sport. There may be a few diehards who buy them every year, but I really don't think there's that many of them.
Your missing Wii Sports in your data, it goes between Madden NFL 11 for Wii and PS2. Don't say you didn't include it because it's bundled because in Japan Wii sports is not Bundled in in Americas Wii sports Resorts is also bundled with the Wii.
As for the data, I am surprised that the 360 is essentially holding the numbers from last week. It leads me to beleive that the 360 Slim sales are going to stay high for quite some time.
Can't wait to see the numbers when the 360 slim Arcade is released in EMEAA and Japan.
BTW I was surprised that 360 Japan/Eruope sales are higher then Japan/Europe sales of Wii and PS3 considering that Japan is almost a dead market to Microsoft.
I was also surprised to see that 360 in Americas is almost exactly the same as PS3 in Americas and Europe. Can't wait for that Arcade 360 Slim to come out to Europe/Japan and see the boast in sales there.
