Forums - Microsoft - Windows Mobile 7 - Success or Failure?

Hey guys,

I want to know what you guys expect for Windows Mobile 7. Do you think it will be a success or a failure?

I took some time to think about it and so far, everything sounds really really great for this new OS.

The only thing that makes me doubt is the fail of WIndows Mobile 6.5. Other than that, it looks like a great device. Read this hands-on impressions and let me know what you think:

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Hard to say... succes in marketshare? sure.. that will happen..

Succes as a platform for third pary app developers? don't know.. even Android is struggeling in that department.. iPhone users actually buy stuff from the Appstore, while Android users don't.. http://larvalabs.com/blog/android/android-market-payouts-total-2-of-app-stores-1b/  hard to say for WinMo7.. most of the games which are releasing are iPhone ports probably to test the waters.. only time will tell..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Been burnt a couple of times with windows phones, this new one does look different but i certainly wont be the first to jump in. Ill wait a year at least to see how it takes off.

6.5 was just a slightly updated version of 6. Version 7 is using totally different base inspired by the Zune. I really like the home screen of this version, and was thinking on getting an iPhone next. But now I'll be going dualboot with 7/Android.

I'm currently torn between a BB 9800 torch and WinMo 7 when it comes out.

I am really courious about Wimo7 first impressions...

What I can affirm:  Wimo7 will be really spread, but marketplace  with payed itens will not be sooo sucsessfull as applestore.

As far as hardware goes, I think Samsung and Sony will drop out and concentrate on Android.

For carriers, Verizon might be out, due to fucking up the whole Kin thing.

Taking out copy and paste is pretty much a shit  move.

They have gone more towards the casual mobile market. They have taken away features from the business side of the old Windows Mobile versions.

I will miss multi-tasking, even though the hardware previously used was shit and couldn't handle the OS well. Windows Mobile has always been too advanced for the hardware that runs it. Windows 7 looks the other way around. I would love to have the functionality of 6.5 with the GUI and hardware of 7.

XBL intigration, Achievements on the go, Zune, Bing Navigation and Netflix streaming are the most appealing features.

All in all, I'm buying it day one. Can't wait to see what models come out from the phone manufatures. I might move away from HTC this time, they overlay their own custom GUI over the WinMo OS, making the phone run slower than it should. My Tilt 2 is all banged up and struggling to stay alive, can't wait to get rid of it.

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Just to be clear, its called Windows Phone 7.  The Windows 'Mobile' name (and any stigma attached to it) is being retired.

Do I think it'll succeed?  Yeah, I do.  Just like this console gen has supported 3 consoles successfully because the gaming market was still growing, so will the smartphone market support 3 or 4 (if you include Blackberry) operating systems.  Now that's not saying it'll blow anybody out of the water, though.

I hope so, as clunky and unusable WM6.5 is, it also had TONNES of customisation.

As for apps selection, i simply think MS will restrict what goes on Live and put up standards instead, but also have all the regular shovelware on another means of download.
