Forums - Website Topics - gamrFeed comments

This thread made me notice that I never use the main pages of the sub sites - I only use the hub page. It feels better to have everything accessible from one page.

Also I would like to have a 'recent news' box on the side to the thread view, just like the overview of threads you recently posted in. I think that would be much better than having threads for each news.

I think VGChartz (the main site) should not have articles on his own. It is strange to have them released first in a place you can't comment and then have it released again on GamrFeed. Maybe they should just be all released on GamrFeed to begin.

I've also def noticed a drop in comments.

It may be a page layout thing. I think the comments are too low on the page. Under the article you have the tags then under that, "share the news", then "related games", then the button for prev/next article, then "further reading", and then finally the comments. To me it seems too deep; people might just get to the end of the article, see arrows pointing to the next article and think that's it and just go to another page and miss the comments.

I already forget what the news article layout was like in 2.0 (lol), but I seem to remember the comments being closer to the article, so there wasn't much scrolling down to read comments.

As for your other question, I mainly stay on the hub page. When i go into a news article or forum thread, I generally just click "back" or click the hub button at the top. Once in a while I'll go into gamrfeed if there are a lot of new items. Don't really go into gamr connect. I like the hot topics on the hub page.

I agree with this. You don't need two same articles in different parts of the site. VGChartz doesn't need articles. I never read them from there anyway, and I think a lot of people probably don't either. Just put all the news in gamrfeed.

Another question - how do you all get to VGChartz at the start of the day? So you type "www.vgchartz.com" into the browser then click through to a thread, then just stick on gamrConnect (i.e using the gamrConnect menus) to browse the forums?

I used a boomark to http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/

...though it is suddenly directing me to the front page, starting sometime in the last hour?

Was about to post this in a new thread. What gives?

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

ioi,

I am a frequent reader, seldom a poster, but I thought I might be able to add some insight from that perspective.

www.vgchartz.com is bookmarked on my browser, and when 3.0 launched I was lost.  I didn't know where the news stories, and reader posted threads had gone, and I wasn't too interested in surfing from site to site to find them...although I still did (just not as frequently).

Thankfully (for you) I kept the original vgchartz.com bookmark on my browser toolbar, and continued to click on it daily.  Now that the vgchartz.com portion of the site looks more similar to what I was accustomed to, I am able to browse to the stories of interest.

- Same thing here, but I still can't get why you had to redesign the whole site, who was running very well. I think this site has somewhat lost a lot with the redesign. Launching this before E3 was a double edged move,  I personnaly couldn't find anymore the information I wanted, so I gathered it on other sites. Then I came back.

- For the site, I still get my old trusty bm www.vgchartz.com.

Offtopic : what was this add at the beginning ? I just hate this forced add thingy. I don't pay bandwith to download adds.

I normally post in Gamerfeed, but only if necesary, and that's not too often for me.

Above: still the best game of the year.

Yeah I would say that I still read the news articles just as much as I used to in GamrFeed and just comment less in them cause it also seems that now days people are posting info and making threads in the forums super fast, usually quicker than VGChartz can put them up so by the time a news story gets posted weve all already discussed the topic quite a bit.

Thats not a knock on VGChartz I think the site does an excellent job and is by far my favorite gaming site its just that we have LOTS of users in the forums so news spreads quick, I think slowly people will get back to commenting on news articles more its just still a sort of feeling out process to the new layout.

Actually the vast majority of hits from the sales articles comes via the VGChartz homepage. They would just get lost in the gamrFeed mess otherwise so I think it is a good idea to have them listed out seperately and linked to VGChartz. Whether we need seperate article pages or not is another issue - the thinking was to have a more professional version on VGChartz with white on black and no comments to keep things clean and have the gamrFeed version where people can chat and comment. That said, I'm starting to think that the VGChartz links should take you to the gamrFeed article pages.

OK. that surprises me though. So, most people go to the article that has no comments. Could be a reason why you don't get as many comments in the gamrfeed sales articles. I rarely go into the vgchartz section because everything I need for the charts is on the hub page, so I miss a lot of articles posted there. But then again I'm only one person.

Yeah I can understand the need for professional looking VGChartz section, but I don't think two articles for the same story is necessary.

@bolded: That might be a good idea.

I stay most of the time on the main page (vgchartz.com) and usually "right click" and open a new tab to navigate. I look for forum topics on the hub and not in gamrconnect, so I can see all the site updates. I read the news, but I don't comment too much and with less people commenting I don't have desire to do it. There hasn't been really interesting news to be honest though, that's probably a reason.

Off topic, but I'd like an option to filter news, forums, reviews depending of the console. Let's say I just want to see Nintendo topics on the hub, or Nintendo news. I think is better instead of color coding like in VGChartz 2.0, or at least a "symbol" at one side to know what's about. For example a N for Nintendo, X for Microsoft etc...
